He’s baaack! Jinyoung is finally back to music three years after his solo debut with Chapter 0: WITH. We now have his second mini-album, Said & Done, in our hands and we couldn’t be happier! With six tracks that clearly display his growth as an artist, this mini-album is all we needed to make our month better. So, let’s dive into each track, shall we?
‘And Now’
Starting off with a quick but powerful one-minute song, Jinyoung makes it clear what Said & Done is about: “I wanted to know / If I can finally face the truth and show you what I’ve become.” This is who he is now as an artist, and we can safely say we’re loving it very much.
‘EVERLOVE’
The title track for Said & Done, ‘EVERLOVE,’ is the romantic song of the year for us. With a catchy beat to accompany Jinyoung’s dreamy vocals, the song has the power to bring that warm fuzzy feeling to our chests when we think of what we want love to feel like. This is the kind of song that makes us want to dance around the kitchen with our other half. Staying true to the feelings when it’s all said and done is all we could hope for, and of course this song could only come from Park Jinyoung himself.
‘Seventeen’ (with WONPIL of DAY6)
Heads up: we cried listening to this one. Wonpil and Jinyoung have been best friends since their trainee days, and if that knowledge wasn’t enough to make us extremely soft, we now have a song they wrote together about their youth. ‘Seventeen’ talks about the journey their teenage selves went through together, walking the streets of Seoul, chasing their dreams and talking about what the future could hold for them. It’s so nice to know that the seasons have passed, they have amazing careers but underneath it all those two seventeen year olds are still there and still friends who made an amazing song together. ‘Seventeen’ is honestly a strong candidate for our favorite song on the album.
‘Different Tracks’
Park Jinyoung are you trying to kill us? These jazzy instrumentals and smooth vocals goot us instantly hooked, and the metaphor of being on different train tracks conveys the message perfectly. ‘Different Tracks’ perfectly captures the feeling of trying to move on from someone but still seeing them everywhere in everything you do, like a “little snapshot of the past” that keeps popping up. Sometimes it lingers in our minds and sometimes it’s just passing by like a bullet train, but the feeling is inevitable regardless. Catch us humming along to this song every time we take a train from now on.
‘Will I Be Okay?’
Is it weird if we say Jinyoung’s voice almost sounds wavy on this track? That mixed with the production creates a perfect atmosphere to get in our feels once again. Trust Jinyoung to make the pain of wondering if you’ll be okay after being pushed away by someone you cared about sound this incredibly beautiful.
‘One-sided Love’ (with Choi Yu Ree)
Excuse us while we sob after hearing this beautiful closing track. The collab with Choi Yu Ree was the perfect way to close Said & Done: it’s emotional, beautiful and almost comforting to listen to despite its sad context of wanting someone who does not feel the same. Plus, Jinyoung and Yu Ree’s voices complement each other perfectly and we can’t get enough of them!
So yeah, we’re very much on cloud 9 over this comeback, and if you haven’t given it a listen yet, do yourself a favor and go check out Said & Done. Then, come back and tell us your favorite song out of it. You can find us at @thehoneypop on Twitter or visiting us on Facebook and Instagram.
