Out: having a summer situationship. In: spending your summer with someone who’s a little bit less than a lover, with JENNIE’s ‘Less than a Lover’ on repeat! Ruby and hits like ‘like JENNIE’ took the world by storm last year, and Jennie is happily taking this summer as well. The heavy-hitting beats and loud confidence of Ruby have dialed back a bit as JENNIE maybe-falls for someone and appreciates how the experience is “teaching [her] how to trust” again underneath the summer sun – could the acoustic closing track ‘twin’ and its beach references have been a hint for what her second solo era would be like?
Though it’s not fully clear if JENNIE is truly falling for this person or whether it will grow into something more down the road, one thing is clear: we are totally in love with ‘Less than a Lover’ and its beautiful music video! In the video, Jennie plays a girl who wants to make a movie with a friend in Spain. Each of their dates or encounters becomes a new “scene” until they almost kiss on the beach, and a cheeky “to be continued” screen suggests that there’s a sequel in store for us later this era. Yep, total rom-com material, and the visuals make it feel even more romantic, adding to the whole will-they-won’t-they energy.
So I want a film about a girl. She wants to avoid love, wants to avoid responsibilities. She’s very confused, but also knows what she wants. Just to enjoy summer.

We’re not exaggerating when we say that JENNIE’s debut solo album, Ruby, is one of our favorite of all time, so you could only imagine how hyped we are to see what she’s been working on. She’s already been coming in hot this era with festival appearances at NYC’s Gov Ball, Spain’s Mad Cool, and more, where thousands of fans were even lucky enough to hear her perform ‘Less than a Lover’ weeks before its drop. If you’re like us and missed those, though, don’t sweat. We know Jennie will definitely have some amazing plans for whatever’s coming!
