Survival Show By Juno Dawson

First, we recommend Juno Dawson’s uncanny new dystopian thriller, Survival Show. Set in the not-so-distant future where a war has ended and coasts and islands have submerged underwater, one teen auditions for a singing competition to help her younger brother get proper medical care. The catch? Whoever gets eliminated faces a televised public execution. Taryn Beck must sing for her life if she wants a chance to be in the pop girl group formed at the end of Starmaker. But the contestants quickly learn just how little control they have, even before the show airs.

Death Card By Jasmine Smith

Our next August audiobook recommendation is a dark contemporary fantasy: Death Card by Jasmine Smith. A witchy read just in time for Summerween, this audiobook follows 18-year-old Mikaela Broussard, soon-to-be Witch Queen of her coven. During a customer’s tarot reading, she gets a vision of the stranger stabbing her heart. To get to the bottom of her imminent death, Mikaela must keep Joelle, her would-be murderer, close. But as the witches in her coven start to inexplicably lose their magic, she finds that the truth is much more sinister than she could’ve expected.

But I Hate Him By Page Powars

Finally, we have a queer YA rom-com with an intense camp competition: But I Hate Him by Page Powars. Featuring a rivals-to-lovers romance, this audiobook is set at the most cutthroat academic camp in the country, BRAIN. After a viral PR nightmare, Rory must save his image (and that of his family’s tutoring company) by placing first at camp. Enter Luca Melendez, a hockey player who seems to win against Rory every time without trying. Rory plots to make Luca fall in love with him and break his heart before the final competition. But the closer they get, the more Rory must deny his true feelings toward Luca.
