Have you ever seen a K-Pop main vocalist who fits the role better than Choi Youngjae of GOT7? Because we sure haven’t! His voice is instantly recognizable in any song we listen to, and it always brings a unique flavor to each and every one. Thinking of that, we decided that today we’d come up with a list of our top 10 verses that show off everything Youngjae’s voice can do.
‘Moon U’ Intro
Starting with one of our favorite examples of how much Youngjae’s voice fits the R&B style, we have ‘Moon U,’ which Youngjae was one of the writers for, so of course we knew it would fit his voice perfectly. The smooth and soft melody of the song brings out the very best of Youngjae’s vocals right from the start, with him singing the opening of the song beautifully.
‘I Am Me’ Pre-Chorus
Having Youngjae and Yugyeom share a pre-chorus is always a good idea, and ‘I Am Me’ is no different. His comforting tone sounds like a warm hug, and pairing it with lyrics that highlight the importance of accepting yourself and rejecting others’ expectations just makes for a perfect song for when we need a pick-me-up.
‘Lullaby’ Chorus
No matter what version of ‘Lullaby’ we’re talking about, Youngjae kills it in every single one. Opening the chorus with Youngjae singing “Sweet talk to me babe, it’s magical” has got to be one of the best decisions ever made in K-Pop. His ad-libs over the final chorus are also to die for!
‘Love Loop’ Pre-Chorus
You know we just had to include our favorite Japanese song GOT7 has ever released on this list. Youngjae’s heartfelt tone and rich vocals fit perfectly into the adorable lyrics of the track, speaking of fated love and connection. Truly main vocalist behavior from our man.
‘Not By The Moon’ Chorus
It’s not exactly news to anybody that we are obsessed with ‘Not By The Moon,’ right? Since the song has a theatrical flare to it, being inspired by a Shakespeare line and all, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to highlight how Youngjae’s dramatic delivery shines in this song’s chorus.
‘You Calling My Name’ Third Verse
As we’ve established, Youngjae‘s vocals suit R&B really well, and ‘You Calling My Name’ proved that by giving us lines delivered in a lower register, showing off how amazing his vocal control is and how he can use it to maximize the impact of his line delivery. Both his verse and ad-libs sound amazing and work perfectly for this track.
‘If You Do’ Chorus
No one would forgive us and we wouldn’t forgive ourselves if we didn’t include the iconic chorus of ‘If You Do’ on our list of favorite Youngjae verses. The ultimate yearning GOT7 song wouldn’t be the same without Youngjae’s perfect delivery on the chorus, perfectly matching the desperation and heartbreak of the lyrics. Catch us tearing up while singing along every single time we listen to it.
‘Hard Carry’ High Note
Youngjae’s high-notes are always legendary, and the one in ‘Hard Carry’ is definitely up there on our list of favorites. It is the explosion right before the beat drops for the last time in the song, dialing the energy all the way up. And if you say you don’t feel like jumping from your seat and dancing when you hear that note, you’re simply lying.
‘Page’ Pre-Chorus & Bridge
‘Page’ is a both a fan favorite and a GOT7 favorite based on every single time we’ve seen them perform it. The energy Youngjae brings to his parts is unmatched, and you can tell he’s having fun while also elevating the momentum of the song. Yeah, we think we love this track.
‘청춘드라마 (Our Youth)’ Chorus
Of course we could only finish this list with the Winter Heptagon song written by Youngjae himself. Having Youngjae sing the chorus along with Jay B brings all the core emotions of the song to the forefront, taking us on a journey through the bond GOT7 shares beautifully.
