This is the Introducing Interview, where we introduce you to brand new artists for you to get all the deets on your future faves! We’re kicking this off with unsigned singer-songwriter, Alexandra Kessler.
Meet Alexandra Kessler
Hailing from Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, Alexandra Kessler has been on the move several times throughout her 20-years. The enriched cultural surroundings she grew up in allowed her to experience and see the world through different eyes from a young age, realizing that the one thing that connects us all no matter the language, culture, gender or age, is music. She is a self-taught musician who began songwriting at the tender age of 13, but it wasn’t until she was 16 when she realized the power of songwriting and connecting through music with people around the world.
After studying at The American University of Paris, the singer-songwriter currently resides in London, where she has been focusing on her music craft and has since released her debut single, ‘Sad Love Song’ as well as her latest ‘Scary Nights’.
Today, we’re chatting to Alexandra to get to learn a bit more about her and her sound.
Can you introduce yourself to us in less than 10 words?
Hi, I’m Alexandra! An international singer-songwriter based in London!
How would you describe your sound in 3 words?
Diverse, Honest, Unpredictable
What was the deciding point for you to take up your passion for music and make it into something?
I had a really rough time during my last year in uni because of my paranoia. I thought I was going to die! This situation really made me appreciate my life and my time. I asked myself “If I were to die tomorrow, would I be happy with what I did today?” and this helped me to put my priorities in order and made me realize that my one and true passion is music, so I decided to pursue a career out of it!
Can you remember the moment you fell in love with music?
Not really! I’ve always been a music lover when I was little I used to make choreographies to songs and sing at the most random times…The incy-wincy spider song was my jam back then!
Tell us all the details about your latest project!
I just release a single! It’s called ‘Scary Nights’ and it is a song that embodies my fear and frustration during my paranoia episode. It has a very dark and spooky sound and the lyrics are super scary yet relatable, I love it! This song is part of a bigger project I’m working on – I can’t talk about that one just yet, but the response has been so lovely I can’t wait to keep sharing with everyone what’s coming next!
Who would you say are your main musical influences?
I have so many! I grew up surrounded by so many cultures and genres. As artists, I think Halsey, Julia Michaels, Melanie Martinez, and Becky G are definitely the strongest influences in my music. They are not afraid, to be honest with their lyrics and to experiment with sounds and genres! Becky G is known to jump around genres and make hits in every single one! I aspire to do the same.
If we were to look on your phone, what 5 apps would we be able to see you use the most?
Twitter, Instagram, Whatsapp, Spotify, and my Notes! I love love twitter! You can find me spening most of the day on there. I check Instagram multiple times a day but I don’t really spend much time in it. Spotify, because I’m always making a new playlist and listening to music, Whatsapp and Snapchat to stay in contact with my friends and family… and my notes because I’m always writing stuff or going over some lyrics or melodies- Inspiration comes at random times!
What are your main sources of inspiration?
Everything! Most of my songs are written from personal experiences. What I went through, what I felt etc.. Sometimes I get inspired by the people around me and what they are going through, and write based on the emotions they transmit to me during those times.
Tell us a must-know fact about you for all your fans.
Hmm .. I don’t know! haha, I just don’t really consider that I have fans really… I try to talk and stay in touch with anyone who supports me as an artist and likes my art so I consider I share a lot with everyone to the point of a friend… I guess that’s a fact about me, I’m a very open person and love chatting with everyone!
What can we expect from you next?
So so much! I’m working on a few songs that I’m trying to release before the year is over. However I have HUGE plans for next year (hopefully an album will be coming!) I want to always deliver fresh things.. so always expect the unexpected!
