The Mandalorian Season 2 Volume 1 Soundtrack Has Us Testing Our Ears

The Mandalorian Season 2 is in full swing. THP HQ knows a thing or two about soundtracks. We’ve been dying to hear more music from season 2, but like all good things, it might give away secrets! Or at least ruin surprises. Get your hands on the goods and learn a thing or two right here and now.

Season 2 Volume 1

Yes, this is only the beginning. Volume 1 gives us the tracks for episodes 9-12 of The Mandalorian. With the season slated to be 8 episodes, that leaves a volume 2 on the horizon. When exactly? Glad you asked. While you can get Volume 1 today, Volume 2 will be coming on December 18th. Why wait so long to release all the music? Good question.

So with a lot of film and TV scores, the titles can be telling. Even if someone were to get fancy with the titles, that doesn’t mean it would fool acute listeners. Each character has a motif or a set song that plays when they appear on the screen. Most of us don’t pay super close attention, but if you’re a lover of soundtracks you might know this already. Often in music, composers will take fragments of those character songs and mix or blend them into moments that pertain to that character either directly or indirectly. It provides a whole new layer to the truly fascinating music.

The composer isn’t anyone to sneeze at, either. Ludwig Göransson has been a busy bee lately. Most recently, he composed for Tenet (2020), though he has worked with the Black Panther and co-wrote and co-produced the songs for DreamWorks’ Trolls World Tour. Taking it back a few years, he has also won two GRAMMY Awards for his song ‘This is America’ which you might be surprised to learn he co-wrote and co-produced with Childish Gambino. Adding to that, he collabs frequently with Childish. Who knew composers were so cool?
