Lemonade Baby is kicking off 2022 with straight vibes and we are so here for it! His newest track, ‘Electric Girl’, is out on all streaming platforms tomorrow, but we have an exclusive premiere for you right below!

Did you run to press play again just like we did? This track is surely going to be stuck in our heads for the rest of the week! Now, if you’re liking this retro pop vibe, you’ll want to keep reading to know what you can expect from Lemonade Baby this year, how he came up with this catchy track, and just how he got started in music.

Congratulations on your newest single, ‘Electric Girl!’ How did we get to the Lemonade Baby we have now? Can you tell us how you got your start in music? How did you know it was something you wanted to pursue?
Thank you! Well… I started making EDM/House when I was 13 and as time went on, I felt creatively limited and entered a 5-year writer’s block. I couldn’t finish anything… Nada… So… I got some great advice which was to learn about songwriting and that changed everything. So here we are…
I feel like music was something that I’d picked up and put down numerous times… When I’m not around it, it’s all I think about, which is terrible when you’re working in an office which requires your focus and attention. I had hit a crossroads in life, and I needed to know I had tried to make music a career rather than thinking “What if?”, so I quit.

Who would you say are some of your biggest musical influences?
Pretty much the GOATs: Prince, The Beatles, Empire of the Sun, Kanye West, Kate Bush, Iggy Pop, Talking Heads, also Max Martin’s work, too.

You recently learned to play the guitar, what sparked that interest and why the guitar out of the many instruments out there?
I had heard that in the ‘Songwriting World’ they’re writing, like, 300+ songs a year. That blew my mind and made me want to be a faster writer and that meant I needed to learn an instrument. For some reason, learning guitar seemed like the best choice, A. because I don’t know what notes the frets are, & B. because I can quickly pick it up and noodle with it (rather than having to plug in the keyboard and turn it on to use it).
I’ll learn keys one day, but for now I’ll stick with the guitar…

‘Electric Girl’ was the first song you wrote on the guitar, what gave you the inspiration for this track?
I was mostly binging the Kacey MusgravesGolden Hour. However, Trace Adkins, Ryan Adams, and Spotify’s HOT COUNTRY playlist.

And the song started off “a bit country” but over time it evolved into what we’re listening to today, can you take us through the process of the evolution of ‘Electric Girl’?
Started with some ‘Spotify’s HOT COUNTRY playlist’ inspired and then morphed towards sounding like my version of The La’s & Oasis. It felt like a country song to me but my ‘country friends’ had other opinions…

Last year you worked with Mammal Sounds Records to release three singles, how would you say, ‘Electric Girl’ differs from ‘Is It Too Late,’ ‘Ex Best Friend,’ and ‘You’re Bad For Me?’
To me… too much difference between the earlier releases. I think I vocally sound the same, but the vibe is different for sure. But it’s good to show growth and change.

Honestly, I was surprised the label wanted to put it out. Out of all the songs I sent, they choose the one I put in the pile thinking it’ll never see the light of day. It was a great surprise.

We heard that this is only the first of a collection of new music you plan to release this year, what made you choose ‘Electric Girl’ as the first release of 2022?
It feels like the biggest risk…. we felt it was better to dive into the year with the most confident choice for the start of 2022.

Can you give us any hints on what we can expect in the near future? Any EPs or albums planned?
I’m working on a mixtape that you might see this year…. that’s all I can say…

We are in love with ‘my baby, don’t forget,’ your collab with Aerborn! If you could pick any musician (dead or alive) to feature on ‘Electric Girl,’ who would you choose and why? Can we expect any collaborations in this new collection of music?
Haha thanks! Aerborn sounds so fun on the record, I’m a big fan of her work.
Probs Tyler, The Creator, his deep voice would suit the beat, I think. it could sound cool.
Perhaps… you’ll have to wait and see… but there will be collaborations this year….

So, your resolution for last year was to learn to play the guitar. Do you have any resolutions for 2022 that you don’t mind sharing?
Hahah just to be rich and flex.
I wanna be more collaborative this year and try to get a song in a movie or tv show, that’d be nice.

More collaborations? We can’t wait to hear what Lemonade Baby has planned! Were you vibing to ‘Electric Girl’ as hard as we are? What did you think of this new track? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @TheHoneyPop! We are also on Facebook and Instagram!
