On A Scale From 1 To 10, IVE’s Japanese Debut Is An ‘ELEVEN’

It’s official: this summer has officially been the Summer of IVE! They already stole our hearts with ‘After LIKE’ back in August, and now, just before the start of fall, they’ve blessed us with a Japanese version of their debut song, ‘ELEVEN!’ Just like the original, this version is simply irresistible and will continue to live in our minds rent-free until we get a new IVE comeback. Gaeul, Leeseo, Liz, Rei, Wonyoung, and Yujin are keeping us DIVEs fed lately, and we can’t complain!

The new ‘ELEVEN’ music video builds on the infectious energy and upbeat attitude of the original video but with a more elegant, girly vibe this time. By now, IVE have already established themselves as some of the queens of 4th gen K-Pop, so they’re embracing that title with a goddess theme! It opens up with a scene of Wonyoung gazing at her reflection in a lake as a nod to the Greek story of Narcissus – he fell in love with his own reflection after catching a glimpse in a lake, and he spent the rest of his life sitting there watching it.

If that name sounds familiar, it’s probably because that story is where we got the word “narcissistic,” which describes someone who’s obsessed with themself. Yup, the word that kicks off the chorus of ‘LOVE DIVE!’ “Narcissistic, my God, I love it…”

We loved ‘ELEVEN’ already, but getting a Japanese version of the song was just the icing on the already-super-sweet cake! We first fell in love with the song when IVE debuted back in December 2021, and the cool energy and slick attitude of the track definitely stood out to us. It was the perfect introduction to such a versatile group, and it still lives in our minds rent-free.
