A Dazzling Cannons Homecoming At Culture Room

The Knocks + Cannons Fort Lauderdale

In the spirit of homecoming season, here is another one to add to the list. Tuesday night saw us watching Cannons perform a sold-out show at Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale for their co-headliner with The Knocks, accompanied by Juliana Madrid.

Juliana Madrid

The night went off with a bang with opener Jules Madrid, an indie artist who was very much serving us lovely vocals with all of the singer-songwriter vibes, and we are very here for it. We later found out she was an American Idol season 16 contestant and sang a song for the soundtrack of the Netflix Movie Do Revenge, called ‘Pretend.’

Cannons

This show was special because not only did it sell out quickly, but it was a hometown show for front-woman Michelle Joy. She grew up in the south Florida area, so we are sure it was a very cool full-circle moment for her to do this, and her mom was even in attendance. Accompanying her were bandmates Paul Davis and Ryan Clapham. Cannons’ sound blends indie pop with ’70s vibes and electronic music, creating a new sound that is uniquely theirs and reminiscent of psychedelic music. Michelle was serving Ariana Grande meets Gwen Stefani, and we want to be besties with her, like, now.

They opened with ‘Goodbye’ and ‘Come Alive,’ followed by ‘Baby’ and ‘Shadows.’ A highlight of their set was their Harry Styles ‘Golden’ cover, which was a whole vibe since they put their signature Cannon’s twist on it.

The last time we witnessed the magic of a Cannons show was last year when they supported lovelytheband, and you can read more about that show here.

The show ended with their well-known song ‘Fire For You,’ which once it became popular, Michelle said changed their lives forever, allowing them to do what they love. Wrapping up the show was ‘Evening Star’ and ‘Goodbye.’

The Knocks

The Knocks transformed this psychedelic pop concert into a nightclub with electronic music that fused different genres and songs. They came to us from New York, mentioning that it was nice to be back after a while off the road. From sparkly jackets to guitars, they had the crowd going until the very end of the night and we were almost able to forget that it was indeed a Tuesday night.

A combination of three unique atmospheres made up this concert, and we could not have asked for much more, and we are starting to think that maybe this Tuesday night was the most exciting one in a while.
