Asking us to stop loving and listening to New Rules would be like asking us to commit a crime. Because in this hive, we are huge stans. How could we not be? That’d be ridiculous of us. And you know what else? New Rules have just dropped their new single, ‘NOPE!,’ and we are so obsessed.
‘NOPE!’ has a bouncy beat that matches with the trio’s powerfully addictive vocals, making you feel elevated with every listen. It’s a track about trying to get closer to someone, but they’re always pulling away from all the beautiful gestures and just a little too out of reach. ‘NOPE!,’ despite its bounciness and positive vibes, is essentially a song about getting the cold shoulder in pursuit of love — which is something we would never give New Rules, by the way!
We wrote ‘NOPE!’ on a trip to Nashville on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year. The AC was broken but we got vodka slushies and pizza and stayed in the studio until 5am. It was probably the most fun we’ve ever had writing a song and we think it sounds like that.
New Rules always impress us with every new single release, and ‘NOPE!’ is no exception. And it’s safe to say that we’ll be listening to this one on repeat for quite some time!
