It’s been five years since Jennie made history by being the first BLACKPINK member to debut as a soloist with her single, ‘SOLO.’ With that song alone, Jennie impacted all of us, and ‘SOLO’ remains one of the most iconic K-Pop songs ever. Now, she is back with a special single, ‘You & Me,’ and we’re falling in love once again.
‘You & Me’
Now, we’re no strangers to ‘You & Me.’ During BLACKPINK‘s BORN PINK World Tour, each member had a solo stage, and Jennie took the opportunity to unveil an unreleased song. So yes, ‘You & Me’ has already been around the globe and back. And we’ve been loving it since day one. On top of that, ‘You & Me’ is not exactly new as it was one of the contestants for Jennie’s debut solo single, instead of ‘SOLO.’ This song has been kept under lock for over five years, and it’s finally here!
‘You & Me’ is quite different from ‘SOLO.’ This time around, Jennie gave us a soft yet enticing love song. It’s full of confidence and that energy we love so much from Jennie. It mixes her softer side with her bolder sides, and we love it. ‘You & Me’ mixes EDM with pop perfectly, and the melodies are incredibly catchy. It highlights Jennie‘s presence as a performer, singer, rapper, and dancer. The performance of ‘You & Me’ is everything to us, so inventive and addictive.
This song has been stuck in our heads even when we didn’t have the studio version, so you can imagine how much we’re obsessed with it now.
The Coachella Version
In this special single, Jennie didn’t release just one, but two versions of ‘You & Me.’ BLACKPINK owned Coachella earlier this year by putting on an even greater show as headliners of the iconic festival. (And their show was already incredible before that.) Jennie’s ‘You & Me’ is one of those songs that were made even more special at the Coachella performance. That night, she unveiled the remix version, and we’re even more in love with this one.
The main difference is that for the Coachella version of ‘You & Me,’ the outro rap is unique – it’s much bolder. It lowkey hits harder than the original song’s more laid-back yet seductive outro. And it gives a whole other energy to the song. Jennie’s rap verse is everything to us, and it makes the song the perfect example of the true ace she is. On top of that, the festival-like outro of ‘You & Me’ is just so good and addictive. Instead of taking a more EDM-pop route like the original, it includes traditional music elements. We’re honestly just as obsessed with the remix as with the original. There is no way to tell which is better because it depends on each person’s taste. We’re just so grateful and happy to have both versions.
The release of Jennie’s solo single feels like the perfect hommage and gift to remember BLACKPINK’s insane era with BORN PINK. ‘You & Me’ is simultaneously the perfect closure and the perfect start of something new.
