9 Songs That Show Off Soobin’s Incredible Songwriting Skills

Choi Soobin. What a guy. Not only is he the best leader and a phenomenal vocalist, but he’s also an amazing songwriter! A truly multitalented king. Soobin has been penning songs for the group since the early days, and with every release, he continues to strengthen his skills. He’s contributed to some of the most iconic songs on TXT‘s discography, and to celebrate his craft, we’re looking at some of his best work.

‘Blue Spring’

We’re kicking this off with perhaps one of the most special TXT tracks to date. ‘Blue Spring’ was performed during their latest tour, ACT: SWEET MIRAGE ahead of its official release on The Name Chapter: Freefall, and boy, has it captured our hearts. Co-written by all five members, this is a love letter beautifully penned from TXT to MOA, full of gratitude and admiration for their beloved fandom who have walked with them since the beginning. Trying to listen to this with dry eyes is a challenge we have yet to succeed at!

‘Ghosting’

TXT are known for having iconic opening tracks, and ‘Ghosting’ from minisode1: Blue Hour is proof of that. Written by Soobin and Taehyun, the nu-gaze-inspired track is the perfect ode to human connection in the technology age. Considering it was released during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when our online relationships were more precious than ever, ‘Ghosting’ is not only a bop but also incredibly emotionally-aware, making it seem like it was written by much more experienced artists, rather than a group who’d only debuted the previous year. But that’s talent for you!

‘MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari)’

Another love song from TXT to MOA, ‘MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari)’ is such a cheerful and uplifting song that finds home on the repackage album The Chaos Chapter: Fight Or Escape and again co-written by OT5, so you can really feel each member’s love and emotion. It’s a light and bubbly bop that has such a special meaning to fans, with even ‘Dubaddu Wari Wari’ using the adorable way MOA say TXT (tubadu…TOmorrow BY TOgether… Dubaddu) and Wari Wari is said to be a cutesy way of saying the Korean phrase “for a long long time,” so it essentially translates to “with TXT for a long long time.” Our hearts are BURSTING!

‘Sweet Dreams’

This track is so Soobin-coded, in this essay we will… We’re kidding about the essay (for now), but we stand by our point. ‘Sweet Dreams,’ TXT’s first Christmas song, written by four of the five members, is soft, reassuring, and multi-faceted. Sound like someone you know? And if you don’t believe us, then believe TXT. The group added ‘Sweet Dreams’ to the setlist of the ACT: SWEET MIRAGE finale after surprising Soobin with a birthday cake and sing-along!

‘Happy Fools’ feat. Coi Leray

We’re sure there are a few reasons that Yeonjun calls Soobin the happiest fool, but one of them has to be because all five members co-wrote this collab! We love it when TXT’s songs are rich with lore, but we also love tracks like this one where we get to see them be silly, goofy guys, too. Every MOA knows that TXT are hilarious, and the lyrics in ‘Happy Fools’ are so witty, making this track the perfect example of the members’ personalities transferring over into their songwriting skills.

‘Ice Cream’

This fun dance-pop gives us very retro 90s vibes and feels like the spritely and playful energy Soobin often portrays. He’s the only member with writing credits for this b-side track from The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE, and we have to be honest; he did a top-notch job! It’s also a great song to witness live on tour as it’s such an enjoyable free-spirited number and gets everyone in such a good mood.

‘Maze In The Mirror’

TXT have been through a lot together since long before they debuted. ‘Maze In The Mirror’ was written pre-debut (because they’ve been that talented since day one, honey!), and the track is frankly heart-wrenching. ‘Maze In The Mirror’ depicts the torturously long trainee days as TXT struggle to recognize themselves in the practice studio mirror. It was the first song with writing credits from every member and produced by Beomgyu, and we’re so happy to think that not only do TXT recognize themselves, but they’re recognized all over the world by MOA, too.

‘Sweat’

You saw this one coming, right? ‘Sweat’ is a true MOA favorite, and that love is deserved! Originally a secret song, ‘Sweat’ was the encore finale on TXT’s first world tour ACT: LOVE SICK, and we’ll forever be jealous of every MOA who got to witness it live. Like ‘Maze In The Mirror,’ ‘Sweat’ tells the story of their struggles whilst declaring they are “gonna glitter like five bright stars.” Mission accomplished if you ask us! We’re always so impressed by TXT’s honesty in their lyricism, and ‘Sweat’ is the perfect example.

‘Dreamer’

This R&B soul song is from their latest album The Name Chapter: Freefall, and is one of the darker songs from the quintet’s discography. Joined by fellow members Yeonjun, Beomgyu, and HueningKai on the writing credits, this shows the versatility in their songwriting skills and another talent to add to their resume. We love how it connects to the TXT Universe lore and references back to previous songs such as Farewell, Neverland and Maze In The Mirror.
