Lizzie No Keeps Us Awake With New Single, ‘Annie Oakley’

It’s 1870 in the Wild West and we’re practicing our best shooting techniques on our farm with our ten pigs and horses…okay, JK! We’re sitting at home obsessing over Lizzie No’s newest single ‘Annie Oakley.’ Even though Annie Oakley herself would be proud of our backwoods lifestyle, Lizzie would want us to transport back to 2023 so we could stream her music.

Listen to ‘Annie Oakley’ here and revel in the simplicity of the video below! We’ll never say NO to Lizzie 💘

We love this music video because it’s quite intimate. As viewers, we feel as though we really get to know Lizzie and we feel comforted by the video itself — the warm lighting and intimacy of something as simple as eating a hamburger and checking into a motel room.

‘Annie Oakley’ tells the story of a regretful, yet powerfully intuitive person. Right from the jump we understand that Lizzie is alone at “The Annie Oakley”— perhaps a hotel where a lover or friend was supposed to be. “Maybe I should get some sleep/But I’ve got half a bottle left,” Lizzie sings. Even though she’s seemingly all alone, she urges a friend, or lover, to join her for the rest of the quiet evening.

“Most of the great songwriters in the Americana genre have darkly determined road songs featuring dirty motels, gas station coffee, the exhilaration of seeing America’s plains rushing toward them from behind a car windshield as if on a roller coaster designed by Willa Cather, bleak club shows, and tequila for dinner. Behind the scenery are some difficult questions, like ‘why have I chosen to do this with my life?’ and ‘will I ever be one of the greats?’.”

As the video progresses, we see Lizzie dressed in a simple white gown jumping on the bed inside her hotel room. With a bright red lip, she grabs an electric guitar and goes off! We want to be serenaded and have a slumber party with Lizzie! We love how dynamic Lizzie is, bringing us grunge and softness all in one song.

Lizzie beautifully portrays the mundaneness, and oftentimes loneliness, of life. She creates music with clear country, blues, and pop influences, a new sound that we adore! We can’t get enough of Lizzie No’s sound, and we are so excited for the drop of her new album Halfsies on January 19th!
