Years of releasing music as an independent artist and flourishing within the music industry have paid off for Charlotte Sands, as she has created an album that is the perfect blend of pop, rock, and alternative. There’s a song on her debut album for everyone, and each of them has the potential to resonate with the masses. Relatability, vulnerability, confidence, and pure empowerment shine throughout can we start over?
The inspiration behind the title can we start over? came while writing a song for the album about the idea of restarting a relationship, and the idea of beginning again or reintroducing yourself to someone. I’ve changed so much over the last few years personally and in my career and I love the concept of starting over as who I am now with the information and knowledge I’ve gained. It’s not about forgetting the past or regretting our choices but more so letting go of the previous version of ourselves and meeting each other where we are at this moment in the phases that we’re currently in. I think this album for me represents exactly that, standing firmly where I am as the person I am today.

‘use me’
We’re kicking things off with ‘use me,’ the lead single from can we start over? This song is the perfect message for anyone feeling like they need to please everyone around them. This track speaks to us on such a deep level. It’s a reminder that we are good enough by just being who we are and staying true to ourselves rather than changing ourselves to fit those around us. Charlotte Sands raises her voice for all of us who are unsure of ourselves and enables us to realize that we can let go of the pressures to fit someone else’s opinions on what we should be like or who we should be. We can’t get enough of this track.
‘pity’
Have you ever met someone you’ve perceived as “perfect” and wanted to be more like them? Well, ‘pity’ is all about that. Filled with a gorgeously maniacal amount of energy, Charlotte Sands made sure that ‘pity’ would pack a punch and leave a mark amongst the rest of the songs on can we start over? Coated with rock elements that go hard right from the start with a chorus that’ll cause a roar, we think that ‘pity’ will be a fan favorite at live shows. The energy in this track is so addictive. It’d be a real ‘pity’ if you didn’t have this Charlotte Sands song in your playlists!

There’s something about artists bringing ‘90s and early 2000s elements into modern songs, and this alt-pop track certainly delivers those nostalgic vibes. When we listen to ‘get over it’ and hear the upbeat nature of it, we can’t help but reflect back to those days when Avril Lavigne reigned supreme. It has an aura of those golden days within it that keeps us coming back for more. This track is all about the struggle to let go of someone after the end of a relationship, even though that’s the best thing to do. We loved Charlotte Sands’ ‘get over it’ when we first heard it back in October last year and it fits perfectly among the rest of the songs on can we start over?
‘spite’
We all know how proud Charlotte Sands is of her own music, and the evidence is in how much she loved to jump on TikTok and tease songs from can we start over? She was so excited to share these songs with us, and ‘spite’ was one that got teased within the last few weeks leading to the album release. What we were able to hear of this track grabbed a hold of a lot of us in such a big way. We were desperate to hear this song in full, and wow, it was worth the wait.
‘spite’ is all about getting back at someone who hurt you. We can relate so hard. Starting with a drum beat that entices and blends into exhilarating guitar work, we’re immediately captured. Bring in Charlotte Sands’ signature vocals against an addictive rhythm with lyrics that jab, punch, kick, and scream, ‘spite’ quickly becomes one of our top favorites in can we start over? Oh, how we wish we were a fly on the wall when this song was being created!
‘teeth’
We adore love songs in this hive, especially ones that have unique lyrics that get stuck in our heads. And this is one that you can really sink your ‘teeth’ into. Charlotte Sands created ‘teeth’ with the intention of portraying that feeling of being so deeply in love with someone. With a chorus that ignites the heart, exciting guitar work that roars the soul to life, and Charlotte’s powerful voice leading the track, ‘teeth’ is an anthem that you’ll want to have in every love song playlist this year.
‘blindspot’
Charlotte Sands is the queen of relatable songs, and ‘blindspot’ is one of the most powerful, heartstring pulling tracks on can we start over? ‘blindspot’ is all about watching someone you’re friends with and have feelings for develop feelings for other people. Isn’t that just such a tricky spot to be in? To witness someone you adore so much catch feelings for others and not you. That’s tough. This was the final single release for can we start over? We were absolutely blown away by ‘blindspot’ when we first heard it and saw the music video for it. It captured us in the best way.
‘dead body’
We love it when Charlotte gets feisty in her lyrics, and ‘dead body’ is no exception here. This energetic anthem is for all those making a promise to themselves that they’ll never get back with their ex. No matter what happens, even if the world is about to end, it’s never going to happen. We absolutely adore the way that Charlotte Sands practically shouts the lyrics out in the chorus for ‘dead body.’ Every word she sings in this song? She really, really means it.
‘on the outside’ feat. Point North
No matter how hard we try, we can still feel like we’re letting ourselves, our friends, and the whole world down. We can try, try, and try again, and still feel like we’re left ‘on the outside.’ This collab with Charlotte Sands and Point North is a highlight on can we start over? Not only does it speak to us on such a deep level, but it also has the potential to speak for the masses. We all know that Charlotte Sands likes to take from real-life experiences for her songs and decorate the lyrics with the truth, and maybe that’s why ‘on the outside’ is such a hard-hitter for us. Feeling like you don’t belong is one of the strongest, loneliest feelings someone can ever feel, and that feeling has been captured perfectly within ‘on the outside.’
‘die in this room’
This one got us in the feels. The passion emanating from this track is enough to make even the most solid of hearts melt. Charlotte pours her heart and soul out on the table in ‘die in this room,’ delicately then energetically encapsulating her love for another in this song from start to finish. It’s a gorgeously written love song that still packs enough of a punch to get the message across. We can relate to that blossoming, addictive feeling of being so in love with someone that nothing else matters. Being in just one room forever with that special someone, ignoring the outside world with the curtains closed. All in all, Charlotte Sands created a love letter with ‘die in this room.’
‘can we start over?’
Charlotte Sands’ debut album concludes with the title track, and it’s a cinematic masterpiece. We can’t help but wonder what kind of movie this would be the perfect soundtrack to because it really sounds like it’s meant to be a part of the opening credits or a crucial scene within a main plot moment of a story.
‘can we start over?’ is all about wishing to go back and restart. It’s about wanting to reintroduce yourself anew with all the knowledge and experience you have now. Imagine if we could do that. Wouldn’t that make life so much easier? Charlotte Sands’ voice is coated with a gentle slither of wonderment and blends gorgeously with the delicate guitar work in ‘can we start over?’ Matched with the lyrics, it’s a combination that has us coming back for more. This is definitely a track that we’ll keep coming back to over and over again.
