CIX is back with their first single album, 0 or 1! It’s been a hot minute since the group had a full comeback, and as certified FIX, we couldn’t be happier that the drought is over! Their first release since the finale of the OK series is also their first single album, 0 or 1!
0 or 1
With this being a new era (and perhaps the start of a new series?) for CIX, they’ve taken the opportunity to try something new, and we absolutely love this for them. We’re huge fans of artists who take chances in order to grow, and, of course, we love it even more when it pays off as well as it did for CIX! From the concepts to the lyrics, the group is definitely showing FIX a whole new side of them. Intertwining the worlds of K-Pop and AI was such a smart move, and we loved seeing people on social media get hyped about this comeback.
So, let’s take a look at the individual tracks!
‘Lovers or Enemies’
CIX knows how to create iconic title tracks (come on, we’re talking about the group that debuted with ‘Movie Star’ here), and ‘Lovers or Enemies’ is just as much of a tune! Like a lot of K-Pop artists, CIX has experimented with synthpop and 80’s influences many times, but usually in brighter ways. ‘Lovers or Enemies’ is a neon late night, and we couldn’t love it more if we tried. The intro sounds as if it’s being played on an analog radio, which makes the opening lyric of “Baby, I’ll turn on the music of 80’s” even more apt. If you didn’t believe us when we said this song had major 80s synthpop energy, maybe you can believe CIX instead!
The dance-pop track pulsates, and this impactful energy transfers over into the lyrics, too. ‘Lovers or Enemies,’ as you might guess, is a direct question, as CIX demands to know where they stand, “There are two choices, depending on your answer, we’ll be lovers or enemies.”
‘my name is shadow’
The counterpart to ‘Lovers or Enemies’ is ‘my name is shadow.’ Despite being sonically very different, both songs have the same thread of eagerness and confession running through them. Telling the story of a completely dedicated and enamoured love, ‘my name is shadow’ could only be a ballad – it just makes sense! CIX’s vocalists are so talented and, in our opinion, hugely underrated, so we’ll be recommending this track to all baby FIX!
