Hot In The Hive: Saweetie, Winnetka Bowling League, & More!

There are few things we at THP love more than finding amazing new music, but one of those things is sharing it with you! The more fans, the merrier, right? So we’re bringing you the Hot In The Hive series, dedicated to sharing new music we know you’ll be buzzing about as much as we are. Let’s dive right into some of the sweetest new releases!

Gabriela Bee – ‘I WANT A HEARTBREAK’

Is it better to have loved and lost, or to have never loved at all? It’s a timeless question, but whichever end of that deal sounds better to you, we know you’ll find something to love about Gabriela Bee’s ‘I WANT A HEARTBREAK.’ The song perfectly describes that sense of longing for a life that keeps you on your toes, constantly finding new excitement even if it eventually comes crashing down. It’s bittersweet and ridiculously clever, and we think it’d be the best plot inspo for a coming-of-age movie about trying to live life to its fullest!

I use wanting a heartbreak as a metaphor for wanting to experience the real things in life. As teenagers, we constantly want to grow up and understand the wildness of the world. Obviously, no one wants their heart broken, but it almost feels like what we get from it is what we crave. The real feelings and stories, whether it’s the good, bad, or the absolute worst.

Letdown. – ‘Hate Myself’

First, we have to point out that Letdown. has never let us down with a new release! That’s especially true for ‘Hate Myself,’ which touches on mental health and how important it can be to just let upsetting feelings exist rather than trying to fight them away. Sometimes you just need to groan about how most places “close at eight,” rant about work, and let all those daily frustrations out before you can pick yourself up and move forward. And it’s just as crucial to know you’re not alone in those struggles, so listening to ‘Hate Myself’ can help you feel understood, no matter what problems you’re facing at the moment.

The concept of self-loathing revolves around acknowledging that one’s life has reached a nadir and ultimately embracing this reality. Engaging in a futile struggle against intrusive thoughts proves to be counterproductive, as one succumbs to their influence and reacts in manners they have long yearned for. It is a sentiment shared by many, this desire to revolt against the monotony of our existence, yet we comprehend that improvement lies on the horizon.

Saweetie – ‘Richtivities’

Let’s pick up the vibes a bit with an empowering new anthem from the one and only Saweetie! Close your eyes and imagine your ideal, most successful self…there’s a good chance they’d be dancing around their nice apartment or luxury mansion to ‘Richtivities.’ Its infectious confidence and unapologetic flexes will definitely get you motivated to work for your dream life. And when Saweetie sings for the “pretty b*tches,” she’s talking about a group of inspiring adjectives – B for boss, I for intelligent, T for tough, C for CEO, and H for hyphy. Throw this song on when you’re getting ready for work or need a little push to believe in yourself!

THEO & Lebo – ‘Under The Table’

Tying together elements of sleek R&B and Afrobeats, THEO and Lebo just delivered one of our new favorite duets to our table with the soulful ‘Under The Table!’ It simultaneously captures the rush of a romance and the comfort of being with the person you love, while their gorgeous harmonies will have you falling just as hard as they are. “We could sit and watch paint just dry, we could live in the cold,” THEO insists, and even those boring and/or excruciating activities would be made a million times better if we listened to this song while doing them! ‘Under The Table’ is a masterclass in how to put together a collab that fans won’t be able to get out of their heads.

It’s that make-or-break moment you reach with someone where the benefits of secrecy no longer outweigh the relief and desire for the connection to be out in the open. It’s that make-or-break moment we’ve all faced, where you’re ready to take nearly any risk for that one person.

Winnetka Bowling League – ‘Sha La La’

There’s nothing really fun about growing up, but there is something fun about finding a song that totally embodies that weird sense of nostalgia we get from looking back on the past. Winnetka Bowling League absolutely nail it on ‘Sha La La,’ thinking back to bittersweet times of way-too-expensive phone bills, unity after tragedy, and the early days of relationships that crumbled. And for the Swifties out there, we’re about 89% sure that the lyric about listening to 1989 is about Taylor’s iconic 2014 album! We adore the level of detail on ‘Sha La La’ and how it still manages to capture a universal experience while calling back to such specific memories.

‘Sha La La’ is a song about getting older, romanticizing the past and forgetting all the imperfections that accompanied the highlights. It’s really easy for me to look back and wish I could relive certain moments because time and distance has sorta allowed them to be polished and refined. It’s funny how you can create this false memory of how things were, almost only for the purpose of making you feel terrible about the here and now.
