Gabriela Bee Shares Letter To Younger Self In ‘Look At You Now’

What advice would you give to your younger self? It’s a question that often pops up as we navigate through life, specifically when we hit certain milestones. But sometimes you don’t have to pass that certain exam or get that certain job to practice gratitude and wonder what your younger self would think. This is exactly the perspective Gabriela Bee shares in her new single ‘Look At You Now.’

At only 17 years old, Gabriela Bee has a huge social media presence. With 13 million followers on TikTok and 1 million followers on Instagram, we’d say she’s pretty impressive. Alongside, she also makes incredible music and has collaborated with Grammy award-winning producers and composers after starting her music journey at just 12. What’s even more impressive is the storytelling and intricate production of her latest alt-pop release, ‘Look At You Now,’ and we’re going to dive straight in.

Getting Sentimental

There is a strong sense of sentimentality that flows effortlessly throughout this track. Gabriela Bee describes it as a song of “reassurance and protection,” and we wholeheartedly agree. It’s both gentle and inspirational. Gabriela captures the struggle of growing up and opens up about her feelings in the song. Ultimately, it’s a celebration of present achievements that, when listening, will bring a genuine smile to your face.

Dear Young Gabi

The verses of the song are raw and conversational. Although we realize Gabriela is talking directly to her younger self, we can’t help but feel like she’s speaking directly to us, the listeners. The relatability of lyrics such as “nothing lasts forever / I wish you knew of what was waiting / it’s all for you, don’t feel so jaded” bridges that connection.

The chorus introduces the alternative elements. With the track cutting out to showcase Gabriela’s vocals, it invites us to pause and reflect on our circumstances. It serves as a reminder that there are brighter days ahead, and we should be grateful for every day. As well as being a delight to our ears.

Our Own Soul Sister

What we particularly love about the song is the role Gabriela takes. She becomes an older, wiser sister to our insecurities. Not only does she remind us that happiness and success are defined by doing what you love and being seen for it. But she also acts as our older sister with lyrics sharing, “you felt like everybody you loves’ gonna leave you, but are you really lonely? or did you forget you’re surrounded by people that love you for you?”.

Dear young Gabriela, ‘Look at you now,’ you should be so proud! Gabriela’s latest track has us super grateful and wondering what we would say to our younger selves. It’s time to get sentimental.
