Exclusive Interview: Caleb Hearn On New Single ‘Little Bit Better’

For those who don’t know, we at THP love romance in all forms: songs, shows, or books. Love songs are part of who we are, and we fall in love with so many artists every day. You may know Caleb Hearn from TikTok, one of his many incredible song releases, or one of our past interviews with him. We have the honor of talking with him again today!

Caleb Hearn has just released his new single with ROSIE called ‘Little Bit Better,’ a beautiful song about having someone who makes your day. That someone can make you feel a little bit better, no matter how frustrated or sad you may be.

Let’s jump into our interview with Caleb as he talks about his latest single, ‘Little Bit Better,’ his musical journey, and all things romance!

Welcome to The Honey POP! To start off, what are three things you want new listeners to know about you?
Hi, thanks for having me! Wow, what do I want people to know….I think the most important thing is that my main goal is to connect to people on a personal level with my music and show others how to be vulnerable. Second, I’m older than I look! I feel like a lot of people still think I’m a teenager, haha. Third, I’m engaged to another musician, and an incredibly talented one at that.

‘Little Bit Better’

Congratulations on your new single, ‘Little Bit Better’ with ROSIE! How did this collab come to be?
I’ve been a big fan of Rosie for years now – I reached out to her over Instagram and asked if she wanted to be a part of this next project, and she was super down! We planned to meet up in LA with some producers I really love working with, and we wrote the song in a day. It was amazing.

Can you describe your journey working on this song with her? What were some of your favorite moments?
I think that the journey was really cool – I wasn’t sure how it was gonna go because it was our first time meeting, but it was like an instant click. The process was fascinating, because it took us 6 hours to write the chorus and maybe an hour for the entire rest of the song. I think we really wanted to nail that part and have it ring true to how we were feeling. When we finally figured it out, everyone in the room was like, “oh my god, that’s it.” Such a great moment.

We love the message behind ‘Little Bit Better.’ Did you have anyone in mind when you wrote this song? Someone who can always make you feel better?
Of course, my fiancée Michal. That was the person on my mind during the entire writing process. I think Rosie had someone else in mind as well, but you’ll have to ask her…

His Music And Roots

What made you decide to go all-in with your music? As an artist, how much have you changed since your first release?
A lot. I mean, when I first started music, I just wanted to make a living. I knew I wanted to do this full time, but I wasn’t sure how to get there. When I had my first pretty successful single, it was about my best friend that passed away, and it really made me realize that the “way to success” is really just staying true to yourself and always bringing that authenticity and vulnerability. That to me became the true success, and my lyrics and song structures slowly started to form around that.

We see you’re originally from Mount Airy, and a few writers on our team are from North Carolina as well! How would you describe the move to Nashville? What are some similarities and differences between Nashville and your hometown?
I decided on Nashville because it had the resources I needed: surrounding myself with like minded people and lots of opportunity music-wise, but when it comes down to the actual people, it’s so similar. I find so many people from small towns like me, and that background really pulls us together. It’s formed such a strong sense of community for me.

Growing up, who or what genre did you listen to the most? Do you aspire to create the same type of music?
Growing up, I listened to a lot of 2000’s bands, but I also grew up in a Christian household, so there was a lot of Christian rock, haha. Switchfoot and NEEDTOBREATHE are two bands near to my heart. I also listened to a lot of up-and-coming pop stars at the time, of course – little names like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. That period, like 2006 to 2010, really had some amazing music. The acoustic singer-songwriter genre was really starting to develop and inspired a lot of my music. A lot of those artists really set up the building blocks for where I’m at now, like Ed Sheeran – someone who has always been so honest in his writing. Even if our music doesn’t sound the same, the concepts are there. I learned about authenticity from the artists I grew up with.

If you could talk to your younger self right now, what would you say?
I would tell my younger self not to be embarrassed about how you feel, and take care of yourself more. Don’t go so hard on yourself. You deserve that.

Romance And What’s Next

What three songs do you currently have on repeat?
‘Highlights’ by Sasha Alex Sloan just came out, and I’m obsessed with it, ‘Calgary’ by Tate McRae, and ‘Your Needs, My Needs’ by Noah Kahan.

Your love songs are some of the most wedding-worthy songs we’ve heard. Has anyone asked you to perform at their wedding or other events before? If so, what was that like?
Yes, I actually get messages almost daily about weddings. I actually did a contest a while ago to play at somebody’s wedding if ‘It’s Always Been You’ hit some specific milestones, and I ended up flying out to South Carolina and playing at a lovely couple’s wedding, and it was amazing. I’ve also played at a friend’s wedding and most recently my cousin’s wedding. It is always such a magical thing.

We hear you’re working on a full-length project to release later this year. How exciting! Can you give us a few hints for what we can expect?
Yeah, I’ll just say that the next full length project is gonna be really special, honest, and vulnerable. I also think it’s going to be very different from what I’ve put out in the past. I think I’ve grown and changed a lot recently, and I want to capture how I feel now, not who I was a year ago. It’s definitely a different stage of life, and I’m really excited for my fans to grow with me.

Do you know the phrase, “men written by women?” If so, how does it feel to be a man written by a woman?
Hahaha, I’ve heard of this phrase before, and first of all, I want to say thanks for the compliment. It’s amazing for anybody to look at me from an outside perspective and say that about me. I really try to be the best person I can be, but also incredibly caring to the women around me. In my relationship, I know what my partner wants, and if I can be that version of a partner for her, that’s the biggest achievement I could have.

I think I’ve grown and changed a lot recently, and I want to capture how I feel now, not who I was a year ago. It’s definitely a different stage of life, and I’m really excited for my fans to grow with me.
