‘California Poppies’ And 7 Other State Flowers Hunter Daily Makes Us Want To Pick This Spring

One of our new favorite artists is making our Spotify premium subscription get its money’s worth. We can’t stop listening to Hunter Daily, and more specifically, we can’t stop listening to her new song ‘California Poppies.’ No pun intended, we are listening to her on the daily. Even though she only has a few songs currently out, we’ve found reasons to love them all.

We’ve paired up our favorite Hunter Daily hits with state flowers that are sure to be in full bloom this spring 💐.

‘Girl Friend’

Hunter’s ‘Girl Friend’ is all about missing that one person who you maybe fell too hard for. We’ve all been there, and now we finally have a perfect song to get us through the heartache, but also the amazing feeling that comes with falling in love quickly.

‘Dont’ Fall Asleep’

If you’re listening to this song, ‘Don’t Fall Asleep!’ There is so much to love about this track! It’s all about never wanting to leave that one person you’re deeply in love with. You don’t want to fall asleep or miss a second of being with them because every moment is just so great. You’re jealous of their every move… so much so that it might get a little creepy. But that’s okay because we’ve all been there!

‘Karaoke Star’

If you love being the center of attention, especially at the karaoke bar, then this Hunter song is for you! ‘Karaoke Star’ is all about the feeling of finding the most perfect person in your life – the person who makes you feel giddy and childlike. Singing at the top of your lungs in the car in the middle of the night, getting matching tattoos, and teaching each other how to play instruments are what make falling in love so fun.

‘California Poppies’

The star of the show is ‘California Poppies.’ Hunter’s newest song is all about questioning where you are in life. Whether you are 16, 21, or 35 years old, you’ve questioned yourself, your career, and what you want most out of life. Hunter is no different as she contemplates saying goodbye to a certain chapter of life, just as flowers come and go throughout the seasons.

Starting over comes with inevitable goodbyes. They’re bittersweet — they give you an opportunity to move on, but also force you to close a chapter, which has always been really difficult for me. In ‘California Poppies,’ I write: ‘California poppies don’t die, they just turn into butterflies.’ Things don’t just end, rather they evolve/transform. To have an optimistic, open mind about endings might be a little bit delusional, but I prefer it that way. To me, thinking that way is more magical and less morbid.”

‘Before It Falls Apart’

Up next, we’ve got one of our favorites, and that’s ‘Before It Falls Apart.’ This track is all about something we are too familiar with – questioning if a relationship is the right one. Even in the seemingly most perfect romantic relationships, there are moments of doubt. How can we save a failing relationship ‘Before It Falls Apart?’ Hunter attempts to answer that in this beautiful introspective song.

‘Skeleton Key’

The key to all of your happiness? Streaming ‘Skeleton Key.’ This next song is all about what happens if ‘Before It Falls Apart’ comes true. What if you have to leave a relationship that is no longer benefiting you? You take a deep breath, bag up their bags, and “set ‘em by the door.” This person may be your best friend, but they no longer show you that love and instead take all your energy. With thoughtful and emotional lyrics, Hunter knows how to capture our emotions in just a few short minutes.

‘Die in LA’

If we could fall asleep peacefully, and never wake it, it would be in Los Angeles. The City of Angels, and the home of all our favs. ‘Die in LA’ reflects quite opposite sentiments with Hunter’s personal experience of living in the big city. Some days it’s a dream and perfect in every way, but other days it’s exhausting and feels never-ending. Hunter says that she does not want to die in LA because “Each day’s the same, all sun, no rain.” She yearns to leave it all behind and explore what lies beyond the border.

‘Age of Depression’

Our last song is ‘Age of Depression.’ Just as in ‘Die in LA,’ Hunter sings about wanting to move away, force herself out of bed, and live life to the fullest. But sometimes that thought seems too overwhelming. “Dare to end this age of depression/Laying in bed like it’s all wrong/Don’t entertain this age of depression,” Hunter admits. We can take away so many lessons from this song, including to live another day and not let depression take over. You are strong!
