We’ve never been quiet about how obsessed we are and have been with The Ready Set. So the second we heard they were gearing up to play Cherryland live in full, we knew we had to be a part of it one way or another. So we snagged our ticket, packed our bags, and made the trip out to L.A. to guarantee that we saw this seventh wonder live and in person. And just as we expected, they did not disappoint whatsoever.
The show was one complete with two equally talented openers, Night Glitch, and Dreamfone. Night Glitch was a sonic masterpiece and took our ears on a journey to another dimension in the best way. Not to mention the guitarist of Night Glitch also played guitar for The Ready Set that night. We love the unity and comradery in this scene the most! And Dreamfone reminded us of all the bands that made us fall in love with this scene, but in a whole new way that reignited our love even more.
Let’s Take A Trip To Cherryland
The stage setup for The Ready Set was also a whole new level of production that we hadn’t seen from them before. There were lights lining the side of the stage dressed up as cherry blossoms, a massive screen backdrop that projected insane visuals for each track made by the legendary Ryan Blewett himself, and smaller screens that stood alongside the drummer that projected the borders of the imagery on the back screen, or it’s own images and phrases such as “TRS FOREVER.”
The Setlist
We consider ourselves somewhat of TRS elitists here at The Honey POP! And by that, we mean we know every song word for word, so we have a dying need to hear every song we can live. To say that the setlist for the night didn’t disappoint is an understatement.
We obviously got to hear The Ready Set play Cherryland in its entirety. Which is something we’re going to be screaming from the rooftops about for quite some time. Our favorites off the album such as ‘Echo,’ Telemetry,’ and the title track ‘Cherryland’ were somehow even better than we imagined. We also couldn’t help but bask in the pure joy on The Ready Set’s face as the songs were sung back to them word for word. We love to see our faves happy and thriving, and this was beyond deserved and earned.
The Ready Set Picks Us Up When We’re Goin’ Under
Of course, Cherryland was a masterpiece to hear live, but the other tracks The Ready Set picked for the setlist had our jaw on the floor repeatedly. From iconic classics like ‘More Than Alive,’ ‘Higher,’ ‘Killer,’ ‘Give Me Your Hand (Best Song Ever),’ all the way to deeper cuts like ‘Hollywood Dream’ and ‘Limits.’ We have no notes, no complaints, only applause for the way this setlist was put together.
It’s safe to say we won’t be shutting up about seeing The Ready Set for a while. But we also won’t shut up about hearing the entirety of Cherryland live. And that’s if we ever do shut up about it in general. You can keep up with our endless ramblings about The Ready Set and more by following us on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook!
