Just when we thought ZEROBASEONE couldn’t get any better, they gave us a masterpiece mini-album with You had me at HELLO and the title track, ‘Feel the POP.’ Even though we’ve loved ZEROBASEONE since the lineup announcement, this comeback is hands down their best release yet. Here’s everything you need to know about it!
‘Solar POWER’
The mini-album opens with an absolute banger: ‘Solar POWER.’ It’s bold and unique, mixing elements of EDM and rock by adding an electric guitar. This song goes hard. ‘Solar POWER’ takes you places you wouldn’t expect and it is quite literally the best way to open the mini-album.
‘Feel the POP’
The main focus of ZEROBASEONE’s comeback is, of course, ‘Feel the POP.’ And yes, we do feel the pop with this one. While their last comeback with ‘CRUSH‘ showed a darker, bolder image than their debut, they’re slightly returning to their roots with ‘Feel the POP.’ This time, the song is built around a production that resembles a video game OST, making it such a fun and quirky track, all while being cute and sweet. And the music video makes the song even more fun and addictive.
‘Dear ECLIPSE’
‘Dear ECLIPSE’ serves as a perfect counterpart to ‘Feel the POP’ and all the brighter songs in the mini-album. With its R&B sound, ‘Dear ECLIPSE’ gives us a captivating darker energy, becoming a stand-out track in ZEROBASEONE’s discography.
‘SWEAT’
It’s followed by ‘SWEAT,’ the pre-release single. And this song brings the energy to a whole other level. ‘SWEAT’ is the perfect dance track with some 2010s vibes, yet it feels fresh and new. And this song is so fun. It’s impossible to listen to it without it bringing your mood up and feeling the need to dance around to it. ‘SWEAT‘ is really that song.
‘Ride SUNDAY’
ZEROBASEONE continue to ride the bright-music train to give us ‘Sunday RIDE.’ While Sundays can feel gloomy, they can also be full of life and energy – and that’s what ‘Sunday RIDE’ embodies perfectly. This fun, innovative love song uses the daily routine to romanticize life and see the bright side of everything. It’s an instant mood booster.
‘HELLO’
Listen. If DAY6‘s Young K were to write a song for our group, we would make it our entire personality, too. ZEROBASEONE are extremely real for not only naming their mini-album after ‘HELLO,’ but also for making their album’s digital covers spell out “you had me at hello.” And this song deserves it. The word “masterpiece” doesn’t even begin to describe ‘HELLO.’ This ballad shines a light on their outstanding vocals as they sing about falling in love – and you know that if Young K is attached to a song, those lyrics will hit you like a truck. The last chorus is beautiful beyond words – the vocals, the lyrics, the melodies… ‘HELLO’ is everything we needed, and we believe everyone needs it in their life, too.
ZEROBASEONE gave us a perfect mini-album this time with You had me at HELLO, and they continue to establish themselves as one of the most promising groups. Each release gets better, and each comeback makes us more obsessed with them. You had me at HELLO is not only ZEROBASEONE’s best release but also one of our favorite releases of the year. It’s that good.
