If you’ve been around The Honey POP! For a while, you know Broadside is one of favorite bands here in the hive! We were lucky enough to cover the release of their latest album, Hotel Bleu, in real time.
Today we’re throwing it back a little. In honor of their album Into the Raging Sea’s 4th anniversary, we’re going to be sharing our absolute favorite lyrics from each track on the album. The LP was released in the midst of lockdown in July of 2020, so the band didn’t get to tour or do much on the ground promo for it until 2022.
Into the Raging Sea tells the story of the band’s challenges of being held down creatively by a label, the battle to find a purpose, lead singer, Oliver Baxxter’s, struggles with mental health, and of course falling in love. The album showcases Broadside’s growth over years, as well as their undeniable musical talent and lyricism.
If you couldn’t tell already, we love this album A LOT. It holds a special place in our hearts, so picking only one lyric from each song was a real challenge.
Alright! Enough yapping, let’s get into the list!
‘The Raging Sea’
“The boy who’s on a string
Hoping that the crowd will never know
But who am I? What’s my purpose?
Dry your eyes, pull the curtain
We’re selling sadness, well, aren’t you worthless?
Don’t you trust me? Don’t you want this?”
‘Foolish Believer’
“I can’t shake the feeling, all of the world is just a stage
And everybody’s acting, hoping that the crowd will numb the pain
So here goes another line from a fading light
I need your love ’cause I’ve sold all mine, don’t walk away”
‘Overdramatic’
“Simple words through a filtered lens, you’re a talking head
And you don’t really feel alive anyway
Spend your nights with the hands of time gripping at your spine
While you’re curled alone in your bed
The tears that fall out of your head, yeah“
‘Nights Alone’
“So let’s pretend we’re not in love
So we can fall in love tonight
‘Cause you make me feel so alive”
‘Heavenly’
“Don’t mean to sound pathetic
But I finally get it
Don’t mean to sound so desperate
But you are my heaven”
‘Clarity’
“It’s like a subtle reminder
Gripping you at the throat
They say the worst is over
But how the f*ck would they know?”
‘Dancing on the Ceiling (With You)’
“I used to wake up in a strangers house
Left with pieces of my own self-doubt
Now I’m wrapped up in your embrace
Feels like I’m enough, ‘nough, ‘nough“
‘Seasons’
“You must be tired of my sunken pride
And keeping tabs on days that I
Can stop, stop, stop and catch my breath
And be who you fell in love with”
‘Breath You In’
“I feel like an actor
The way I force myself to pretend
Feels like I’m always on the outside looking in
You got me running from my own pride yet again”
‘The Setting Sun’
“The moon is hanging low, it’s almost blinding
I’m drowning from the raging sea inside of me drown inside of me”
‘Burning at Both Ends’
“And wherever this light may take us in the end
And as hard as it is to admit
I forgive you
And I wish you the best”
Like we said, this album is an absolute masterpiece! This is by no means a complete list of every perfect lyric from the album. The only way to learn every single one is by diving Into The Raging Sea yourself.
