So, it finally happened. TXT’s eldest member, Yeonjun, has released a solo OST, and THP’s MOA hive will never calm down ever again. As part of the soundtrack for new k-drama Cinderella at 2AM, which also features the likes of Sam Kim and Vincent Blue, Yeonjun has dropped ‘Boyfriend.’
‘Boyfriend’
Sonically, ‘Boyfriend’ isn’t necessarily what we expected from a Yeonjun solo release, but it works perfectly as an OST. The track is crystal clear synth-pop, with Yeonjun’s vocals pushed right to the front of the mix, matching the earnestness of the song’s concept. In fact, the lyrics are enough to send the most chill of fans into severe delulu territory. You can expect this song to be the soundtrack to fan edits of your faves for the foreseeable future.
‘Boyfriend’ also showcases a new side of Yeonjun’s vocals compared to what we’ve seen (or rather, heard) in his work as a member of TXT. We usually get more of his derisive rap style (‘Good Boy Gone Bad,’ ‘PUMA,’ ‘LO$ER=LOVER), or his alluring vocals (‘Farewell Neverland,’ ‘Deja Vu,’ ‘Ghosting’). In ‘Boyfriend,’ instead, we’re treated to a super sweet fuller tone that we just absolutely adore. And that’s on 4th Gen It Boy versatility!
TBH, we weren’t really expecting a music video to accompany ‘Boyfriend’ either, but when has TXT not spoiled MOA rotten? The video is simple but sweet, with clips of Cinderella at 2AM interspersed with Yeonjun in the studio in a behind-the-scenes style. Not only did this make us even keener to watch Cinderella at 2AM, it also got us thinking about what a solo music video from Yeonjun might be like. Speaking of…
What’s Next?
Well, we can pretty safely bet that there’s an official solo debut on the very near horizon. Yeonjun has mentioned a few times over the last couple of years that he’s been on-and-off working on a mixtape, and was really keen to find the time to make it happen amongst TXT’s busy schedules. The day ‘Boyfriend’ came out, Yeonjun hopped on Weverse Live and lowkey confirmed it, too. He’s had a “personal project” he’s working on and asked for MOA’s support. Come on, do you even need to ask that? We got chu.
If all of that wasn’t enough to confirm our suspicions, then he also basically said there’s a mixtape this month when he guested on RUN JIN, and seems to be giving away potential choreography spoilers during the fan soundchecks on tour for ACT: PROMISE. So yeah, we’d advise you not to bet against this prediction…
