Hi Rosie! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! To kick us off, how would you describe your music to someone who is tuning in for the first time?
Hi! Thank you for having me! I always find it hard to describe my music for others, but for a first-time listener, I’d say my music is easy to listen to and perfect for listening on a long car ride by yourself or throwing it on in the background at your apartment with friends. While my songs dive into more lyrical worlds about breakups, the music is still catchy and easy to grab onto.
‘Roomful Of People’ is currently out into the world! What was the creative process like for this track? Was there a moment you can remember knowing you would be fully finishing this track and putting it out?
Me and my group of favorite songwriters knew immediately this song would be released when we wrote it! We all had a feeling that it was special right away. It was written at a songwriting camp for my project at a house in Southern California right on the beach, which I think really inspired the production for this track in the sense that the guitar parts feel so relaxing to listen to since they were written while we were all listening to the waves and staring out at the ocean! We all felt like keeping the production minimal was the right decision since the song flowed out so naturally and acoustically. Once we had the song, it became a focus of finding the right voice to feature on it with me, and I’m so happy Jake Scott wanted to be a part of it! His voice with mine added a whole new layer to the song, and I think he was the perfect person to feature on it.
And speaking of the creative process, was Jake Scott a part of that since the beginning? How did this collaboration come about?
Jake was someone I had heard of, but it wasn’t until after the song was written that we started thinking about who would be a great fit to sing on it with me. One of my producers, Justin Gammella, had known Jake from working with him and wanted to send the song over to him to see what he thought, and he was immediately excited about it! It came together fast. Jake is the best and one of the kindest people, so it was really awesome getting to work together on this song. We ended up shooting a music video together too, which was great to meet in person and have us both involved in the visuals for the release. So far, I think our listeners are happy about our collaboration!
‘Roomful of People’ is both the name of your latest track and your upcoming EP, was the track based around the name of the EP? Or did the track inspire the name of the EP?
The name for the EP was secondary! I didn’t know what to call the EP for the longest time, but after a while, I felt like the idea of ‘Roomful Of People’ was an interesting concept in the sense that each song feels like a version of myself or its own story, and as people, we are just a collection of stories and experiences that we carry with us throughout our entire lives, so I wanted to capture that feeling of being a collection of all of the versions of myself throughout life and sharing them through the songs.
We have just a few short months until the EP is out! What are your emotions leading up to the release?
I’m ready and excited! A lot of these songs are new and were written more recently so I’m excited to see them out in the world and give the listeners more music. It’s been a while since I’ve released a project so it will feel great having something complete out there for people to hear and connect to.
When fans walk away from their first listen through of the EP, what are you hoping they take with them?
I hope they feel seen!
Lanterns, your debut album, has been out for a little over a year now, when you look back on that record, are there any tracks that your relationship had changed with overtime?
Lanterns will always probably be my favorite project to me just because it felt so personal. There were a lot of songs that I wrote for myself on that project that helped me through a hard time. But I’d say this new EP is a bit of an extension of Lanterns in the sense that the production doesn’t feel like too huge of a deviation, however, some songs are more up beat and playful than Lanterns as a whole. ‘Boxes’ is probably my favorite from Lanterns and I think it always will be. I think you can just feel the emotion in that song and even when I listen to it now it takes me back to that time when I wrote it.
Once again, thank you so much Rosie for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, as we head into the second month of 2025, do you have a musician resolution that you hope to accomplish this year?
Thank you! I am super excited to release my EP and my goal in music is always to keep collaborating and writing the best songs that I can. I would love to continue writing for myself as well as other artists to help tell their stories with the skills that I’ve learned through telling my own.
