First, we had MINX with their bright, bubble-gum-perfect pop. Then it strangely led to one of the most iconic girl groups in K-Pop, Dreamcatcher, who changed the industry and pioneered rock in K-Pop. And now, for a new era, JiU, SuA, and Yoohyeon are debuting together for a third time as UAU. This is no new sub-unit – everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when their ‘Taki Taki’ dance cover, choreographed by SuA, dropped, and that’s where it all began for them. While recreating something like ‘Taki Taki’ is impossible, what they could do was do their own music together and change our lives again. And they did.
‘Sacrifice’
Starting their first mini-album with an acapella moment seems about right for such strong vocalists as Dreamcatcher‘s UAU, but it still takes our breath away every single time. ‘Sacrifice’ is an excellent opening song that lures you in with a unique and enticing atmosphere. A jazz sound mixed with a sensual energy, ‘Sacrifice’ is an irresistible track tied together by the members’ soft yet powerful and beautiful vocals. ‘Sacrifice’ is an intoxicatingly perfect song for UAU, and somehow, it’s not even the highest point of the release.
‘2 Months’
‘2 Months’ is one of the two title tracks in Playlist #You Are You. And while it continues to show UAU’s maturity, it does it in a much different way. ‘2 Months’ is an addictive, refreshing song that feels like a breath of air in the landscape of K-Pop. The mixture of catchy melodies and a Latin rhythm makes ‘2 Months’ an instant contestant for the song of the summer. We wanted another ‘Taki Taki,’ and we got it, accompanied by a fun music video with gorgeous aesthetics, an incredible animated section, and a choreography that makes you want to re-watch it a million times. ‘2 Months’ is exactly what we hoped for UAU, and it is amazing.
‘Attitude’
And speaking of choreography, ‘Attitude’ deserves to be the talk of the town with its jaw-dropping choreography. After giving us a jazz flair and a hint of reggaeton, ‘Attitude’ brings hip-hop influence into the mini-album, showing UAU‘s variety of sounds and how their talent fits just about any genre. ‘Attitude’ is a fun, light song that feels easy to listen to but so impactful it will never leave your head. And it’s far from being all about choreography because SuA gives us one of the best vocal moments of the mini-album in the bridge. No wonder they couldn’t settle with just one title track, but blessed us with two.
‘Good Luck’
When it comes to catchy songs, ‘Good Luck’ takes the cake. This song is the perfect closing track, as it has you reaching for the play button instantly. ‘Good Luck’ is the brightest song in the release, and it brings a new element to the release with its joyful vocals and atmosphere. It is impossible to listen to ‘Good Luck’ without having a boost of serotonin. It’s the good side of a goodbye, the bright side in a new chapter. And we’ll take every chapter in Dreamcatcher‘s history.
