The news we’ve been waiting on is finally here! MICO has officially announced his debut album, When the lights turn on, and we’re SO ready for it. Not only that, but he also dropped a new single and music video to go along with the announcement and get us even more hyped.
So far, we know of two songs that will be on this 10-track album: ‘DREAMBOY’ (released last month) and now ‘Like you mean it.’ Until the album releases on June 26, though, we’ll be playing through his discography over and over. It’s a daily occurrence at this point.
Don’t worry, we’ll bring you along with us as we listen. Here are four MICO songs to get you ready for When the lights turn on!
It feels right to enter this new era with this song. It’s the perfect mix of the old sound I’ve developed with the new things I’ve gotten to explore on this album. I poured everything into this one and all of the visuals, and I hope that passion comes through.

‘Like you mean it’
Of course we had to kick off the list of MICO songs with his latest release, ‘Like you mean it!’ This song has everything we love about him, from the heavy-hitting lyrics to the high-energy instrumentals. He sings about being with someone who relies on external connection to avoid looking within. They often treat relationships as lifelines, which can be frustrating for the other person. As MICO puts it in his killer chorus:
“You can’t call it healing, running from a feeling
I can’t be the only good thing that you got
So love me like you mean it
Not like you need it
I can’t be the air that you’re breathing
When I’m barely breathing at all”
MICO also takes us back to Stillville in the music video, a mysterious neighborhood he previously teased in the ‘DREAMBOY’ visualizer. Think of the ideal suburban lifestyle on the outside paired with unsettling events on the inside, and you’ll get Stillville.
I really had to break down and simplify everything I was feeling at the time because there was so much I wanted to get off my chest, and this chorus just feels like reality check after reality check.

‘Parasite’
Next, we have his single with Haiden Henderson: ‘Parasite!’ This track is one of our favorites from MICO’s discography, despite it being released fairly recently last October. The lyrics are about someone who’s only with you for the physical intimacy. There’s bound to be a time limit on your fling, which could be one night or multiple nights. Even so, we can’t help falling for those people, especially when the tension hits this good.
‘Tears in your eyes’
Switching gears dramatically, our next MICO song recommendation is ‘Tears in your eyes.’ This angsty breakup song is about trying to get over someone when they keep trying to contact you. Whether it’s to get back together or try to stay friends, you’re still stuck grappling with the fallout. We’re also so obsessed with the instrumentals, making this the perfect song to blast in the car or in your room as you stare up at the ceiling.
‘Idontwannaknowyou!’
We couldn’t resist adding another Internet hometown hero song to the list, but can you blame us? In fact, go ahead and listen to the whole album so you can see what we mean. ‘Idontwannaknowyou!’ talks about running into an old friend or someone you used to know in school and hating who they’ve become. These growing pains are so real, and MICO captures it perfectly. And with graduation season upon us, this song hits that much harder.
