Oh My Affogato! By Donna Ghorbanpoor & Daphne Ang

Let’s get our May Sweet Listens started with a book that feels like a mini-vacation: Oh My Affogato! by Donna Ghorbanpoor and Daphne Ang. It follows 18-year-old Soraya and her two best friends on a trip to the Amalfi Coast. Soraya has hopes of defining her relationship with her on-again, off-again situationship Wes when she’s not with her girls. But her summer romance doesn’t go as planned, and neither does her vacation. Soraya starts to feel even more frazzled the more time she spends with the cute Italian guy whose family runs the quaint B&B. Oh My Affogato! is the first book in a romantic vacation series called Vacationship, and we can already tell we’re locked in for all future installments!

Rolls And Rivalry By Kristy Boyce

Next, we have Rolls and Rivalry, a May audiobook by someone who’s known for her lovable YA gaming romances: Kristy Boyce! In this new release, we meet Hazel and Max, two high school seniors competing in their school band. Hazel leads the color guard team, while Max participates in percussion, and their sections bicker constantly. Max used to be Hazel’s best friend (and longtime crush) before he moved away three years ago, and he’s returned a completely different person. But when they start a Dungeons & Dragons campaign together with a few of their fellow band mates, their hostile rivalry blooms into something else entirely.

We Dance Upon Demons By Vaishnavi Patel

Our third May audiobook recommendation is We Dance Upon Demons by Vaishnavi Patel. It’s a timely contemporary fantasy about Nisha, a reproductive health care worker who’s barely scraping by each day. She faces unending attacks from protestors, lawmakers, and her own depression. When Nisha pricks her finger on a statue at a South Asian art exhibit one day, she unlocks otherworldly powers and dangerous demons that seek to take them from her. As she tries to make sense of her new abilities, Nisha dusts off her dancing skills and connects with the women who have been in her shoes before. But the threats loom ever closer, and Nisha must learn to fight against the demons plaguing her community and the humans trying to shut down her clinic.
