It is most definitely shaping up to be a pink cloud summer, folks. Not only did our favorite post-hardcore outfit Movements announce the release of their new album, Happier Now, but they also dropped two brand new singles to hold us over until September. Yes, September. Happier Now drops September 4th, so be sure to pre-save the album so you’re all set for release day! If ‘Dissolve Me’ and ‘Back In My Ways’ are a sneak peek at what we can expect from the album, then we are beyond excited to see what the band has in store.
Dissolve Me,’ the first track we wrote for this record, set a precedent for our writing process,” … “Nailing the lead single for an album cycle on the first try is a significant accomplishment. It felt like the perfect culmination of energy, emotion, and growth for us sonically.
Pat Miranda, Movements
Not only did we get a double single drop, but we got a music video drop as well! That’s right, two singles, one video.
If you’ve ever felt like slamming your head into something because you’re so overwhelmed, ‘Dissolve Me’ is the track for you. We mean that kind of literally. The chorus hooks you in with the visual of going “head first into the concrete/and let it dissolve me” following a verse full of wondering “why I’d have to go and make it complicated?” This track is for the instrospective fans out there and for anyone frustrated by that instrospection in the moments where it all feels like too much. Movements is a band that always manages to translate the human experience into music in a way that makes you feel like they pulled the experiences straight from your brain and ‘Dissolve Me’ follows that pattern.
Like much of the record, this song is introspective, and It’s a sort of confession about my own social behaviors and the challenges I face in navigating even the smallest or most ‘normal’ everyday interactions. Those feelings tend to accumulate and worsen over time, to the point where they can become debilitating. Sometimes it feels like the only remedy would be to slam my head into a wall.
Pat Miranda, Movements
‘Back In My Ways’ definitely follows that pattern too, though through a more somber lens. This track almost brings us back to the Feel Something days in terms of the theme, leaving the listener wondering “so, when did I get this way?” It’s an introspective track in its own way, something that you might gravitate to if you also feel like your “world becomes a maze” and “maybe I’m just looking for a little more life.“
Back in My Ways’ was a track that I kinda hated at first,” … “I think there was part of me that was hesitant to want to slip back into the ‘sadder’ side of our music. Sometimes the early versions of the songs we write don’t hit right away, but over time it’s become one of my favorite tracks on the record. This song is a slow burn in more ways than one, and it’s really special.
Pat Miranda, Movements
Happier Now will be Movements’ 4th full-length album and they’ve gotten better and better with every release. In addition to the album announcement and singles drop, they also announced the Happier Now USA Tour, which you can grab tickets for.
