We’ll happily savor anything aespa give us, but we truly think their second studio album, LEMONADE, is one of their best releases yet! It stays grounded in Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning’s core confidence and attitude while packing a refreshing punch that will keep you hooked on each song. Let’s take a sip and unpack some of the album’s best moments.
‘WDA (Whole Different Animal)’
Right from the start, this era felt like we were stepping back into KWANGYA and aespa’s immaculate sci-fi world building. Pre-release track ‘WDA (Whole Different Animal),’ featuring a verse from G-Dragon, pulses with swelling, futuristic synths and urgent drums while the Mutant concept photos gave the girls features like sharp claws and scorpion tails. One of the album variants is even titled the P.O.S. Version – P.O.S. (Point Of Soul) are portals in aespa’s lore where they can connect with their ae avatars between the real world and the FLAT. Could we be seeing the ae characters again soon…?
‘LEMONADE’
The album’s title track, ‘LEMONADE,’ comes off like a sister song to ‘Whiplash’ and we are soooo here for it! It’s an electropop-influenced jam about knowing your power and turning any sour energy sent your way into something positive, playing on the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” There are so many addictively quotable lines on the song that fans are absolutely drinking up, including Ningning’s “muchas gracias, mi amor,” and even nods to past aespa songs like ‘Drama’ and ‘Welcome To MY World.’
Refreshing B-Sides
If you loved ‘WDA’ and ‘LEMONADE,’ then just wait until you hear the rest of the LEMONADE album! You’ll definitely want a sip of these b-sides, which range from the sassy pop-rock of ‘Can’t Help Myself’ to the energizing phonk of ‘Switchblade’ with Ty Dolla $ign. There’s an unforgettable taste on this album for everyone, no matter which flavors of aespa’s music are the most interesting to you. They really showed off as many sides of themselves as possible throughout these songs and it totally paid off!
