Just over a week before their new EP Exit Wounds, Spacey Jane hit the stage in Columbus, Ohio on the If That Makes Sense tour. And with so much Spacey Jane content in one week, we hope it goes without saying that we can’t get enough of it.
The indie-rock band’s last three albums have been packed with high-energy songs with deeply personal lyrics. After tackling subjects like guilt, insecurity, and mental health struggles in their first two albums, they attempt to find some meaning in the uncertainty in last year’s If That Makes Sense. Taking the songs to the stage only made them more powerful. With their lively melodies and strong stage presence, it was easy to forget some of the heavier lyrics and just dance.
Spacey Jane bounded onstage to open with All The Noise. Immediately, their energy was infectious. Refusing to allow the microphone to hold him back, lead singer Caleb Harper was captivating. Even as he showed off his silky smooth vocals, he danced around in a charming display of his endless charisma. Behind him, guitarist and bassist Ashton Le Cornu and Peppa Lane put on a show of their own. They leapt around the stage, kicking, spinning, and at points, jumping over one another. Not to be left out, drummer Kieran Lama completed their sound with just as much passion as the rest of the band.
Even after the success of If That Makes Sense, Spacey Jane paid equal attention to all three of their albums, making their way through songs like ‘Whateverrrr,’ ‘Feeding The Family,’ and ‘Hardlight.’ And of course, they closed out their main set with a classic: ‘Booster Seat’ from their debut album Sunlight. With the opening chords, the crowd went wild. Whether they were a casual fan, a longtime listener, or anything in between, everyone in the crowd knew the summery tune. And they were only too happy to sing it at the top of their lungs, and to indulge Caleb as he stepped back from the microphone and listened to the crowd take over a chorus.

They stepped back into the shining lights, with their name splashed across the wall behind them, to do a three-song encore. With the more directly emotional tracks from If That Makes Sense behind them, they gave a larger-than-life performance of ‘So Much Taller,’ one of the livelier tracks. And then they turned to their upcoming EP Exit Wounds, which is out now. As their fans awaited the next chapter of their musical catalogue, ‘Do You Really Love Her’ was sure to generate excitement, even as the night wound down. And the thrill lasted through their final song, ‘Lots of Nothing.’
When the lights came back on in the venue, it illuminated a crowd of beaming faces as fans left clutching merch or discussing their favorite moments from the show. Even on a Monday night, Spacey Jane delivered a dynamic performance with mesmerizing stage presence and relatable songs.
If you want more Spacey Jane, let us remind you that Exit Wounds is out now! Over the course of seven songs, they continue their search for a better understanding of the world and their place in it. In ‘East Village,’ they seek a peace that they don’t close to finding, and even as they find answers to desperate questions posed in past albums, new questions take their place. They navigate topics like loneliness, mental health struggles, and the pains of growing up. By ‘Watch Me Break The News,’ they attempt to find some sort of acceptance in the chaos.
With the release of Exit Wounds, now is the perfect time to see Spacey Jane on tour. After their North American headline shows, they’re hitting the road to support Rainbow Kitten Surprise before heading back to Australia in November. Check out their route and buy tickets here!
