If you’ve been on the hunt for the perfect sweet and spicy summer read, we’ve got just the book! See You at the Sunset by Susan Lee is a heart-fluttering romance between Jia Chung, a bold, free-spirited executive assistant and Henry Shin, a stern, rule-following corporate lawyer.
What started as a one-night stand turns into a fateful encounter when they both spend the summer at the Sunset Hills retirement community. We especially loved catching details about a familiar book reviewer, along with nods to Kennedy Ryan and The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood in this book.
It was so easy to fall in love with Susan Lee’s latest adult rom-com. But if you’re still on the fence, we’ve got three more reasons to love See You at the Sunset!

Book Overview: See You At The Sunset
Content warnings: panic attacks, mentions of parental neglect and manipulation
Summary: Jia Chung is living the dream…until she gets fired from her job, yet again. With her mom breathing down her neck to move home, she needs an escape, fast. When Mimi, her beloved grandmother, invites her to spend the summer in Palm Springs, Jia jumps at the chance. Staying at Sunset Hills Senior Living Community is exactly where a free spirit like Jia can thrive—among people living their best, sun-soaked, fun-filled lives. So what if they’re all octogenarians?
Henry Shin lives by the rules. It’s what overworked corporate lawyers do. They don’t fly off to Palm Springs to help their grandfathers move into a new home. But Dennis is Henry’s only family. How else can Henry make sure he’s settled and safe? The boisterous Zumba classes, daily happy hours, and spicy book clubs were a surprise though. And at the center, leading the charge, is a bright, vivacious stunner named Jia Chung. The same face he’d had a one-night stand with a few months back. And the same woman Henry was forced to terminate at his company the morning after.
As carefree days turn into hot, steamy nights, the chemistry between Henry and Jia ignites. But when the real world beckons, should what happens at the Sunset stay at the Sunset?
Jia’s Personal Journey
Fresh out of being fired from her job, Jia returns to the one place she can call home: the Sunset Hills Senior Living Community. It’s where her grandmother Mimi lives, and she happens to be the only person who loves and supports Jia unconditionally. Jia quickly finds her calling at Sunset Hills: organizing weekly events and preparing activities for the residents. Her bubbly and loud personality fits right in, and the seniors match her energy with surprising vigor. It was so lovely to see Jia shine as bright as she can in this new space, alongside people who can appreciate her as she is.
The Sizzling Chemistry
Another thing we love about See You at the Sunset is the undeniable chemistry between Jia and Henry. We knew their lives would change from their very first night together. Granted, their opposites-attract romance had a rocky and complicated start. But the more time they spent together, the more Henry opened up his heart. The desert air helped him let loose and finally allowed himself to find joy in life. Joy in the form of one Jia Chung. Their spicy scenes were also incredibly written, and we thoroughly enjoyed their bed chemistry on top of their romantic chemistry.
Meddling Senior Citizens
Last but certainly not least, we absolutely loved the meddling senior community at Sunset Hills. They are the comedic relief, the supportive family, and honestly, the stars of the show. The ladies hilariously have no filter, especially when it comes to Henry bringing all the eye candy. Mimi takes it upon herself to rally up all the troops (other seniors) to bring Jia and Henry together. Henry’s grandfather Dennis even plays his part in Operation Hookup well. From peer pressure in Zumba class to one carefully placed sandal, these 70- and 80-somethings know what’s up. They’re who we want to be when we grow up.
A highly enjoyable adult rom-com with sizzling chemistry and meddling seniors, See You at the Sunset by Susan Lee has quickly become one of our favorite summer romances ever!
