We have been on cloud 9 since Zara Larsson released her newest album, Venus! As we soar through the clouds, we’re headed to Mount Olympus 🏛️to meet our favorite Roman Goddesses, including Venus herself. Zara looks stunning and stoic in the gorgeous album cover art, so we had to take this opportunity to dissect each new track with the appropriate goddess comparison.
Each of the new twelve tracks has us praising Zara and the music goddesses above!
‘Can’t Tame Her’ – Goddess Terpsichore, The Muse Of Dance
Just like the Roman muse of dance, Terpsichore, Zara is a singer that you cannot tame! On the dancefloor, Zara is tearing it up with her vocals and production. You definitely cannot tame us once we start dancing to this track, either! 🤭 Opening an album with a song as groovy as this one was a great decision and has us immediately ready for track #2.
“Can’t tame her magic energy/She’s so magnetic, pulls you in every time (every time)/Every time (every time)/But she don’t care, she gonna do what she wants (she wants)/Because she never needed any reason (reason)/Yeah, she a girl and she just wanna have fun, ooh”
‘More Than This Was’ – Goddess Ceres
Venus is off to an amazing start and definitely achieved more than our highest expectations! We have no choice but to pair this song with the Roman goddess of abundance and plenty, Ceres. Ceres was that girl, providing all her people with fruitful crops and gardens 🍎. Just as Mother Ceres fed her people, Mother Zara is feeding us today!
“Could you stay right by my side/One more time just to try?/What if we coulda been/So much more than this was? (Than this was)/Pretend you’re mine for the night/Before I say goodbye/What if we coulda been/So much more than this was?”
‘On My Love’ – Goddess Vesta
This track is not new to us Zara stans, we’ve been jamming to this one for a while! This infectious dance track 🕺featuring David Guetta reminds us of the Roman Goddess Vesta. Just as show our family as much love as we can, Vesta took care of the family and the home for her people, especially since she was the firstborn daughter of Titans. Firstborn daughters, raise your hands! We deserve all the flowers for keeping the house in order 🤝💐.
“I still need you deep in my heart (yeah, yeah)/That’s on my love (yeah)/That’s on my love (yeah), yeah/You’re the one thing I can’t escape/You’re the fire to my warm embrace, yeah/That’s on my love”
‘Ammunition’ – Goddess Bellona
We’re gathering all the ‘Ammunition’ to get ready for battle! The Roman goddess of war, Bellona, has our side – she’s fierce and ready to stand up to hate (even though we know no one hates Zara)! We’ll go to war ⚠️ any day for our girl.
“You’ve been distant/I wanna give us a shot, please/Gimme, gimme, gimme ammunition/Love me, love me, kiss me, touch me/I wanna give us a shot, please/Gimme, gimme, gimme ammunition”
‘None Of These Guys’ – Goddess Victoria
Good thing we are not talking about Roman Gods because ‘None Of These Guys’ would make the final cut. Women reign supreme! 🩷 Yes, women like Zara will always reign victorious, just as Roman Goddess Victoria commands. As her name implies, Victoria is the goddess of victory in every sense of the word. We hope to see Zara reigning victorious on the top of all the charts with these hits!
“None of these guys got nothing on mine/They’re either too short, they’re either too high/Yeah, none of these guys got nothing on mine (Nothing on mine)/None of these guys got nothing on mine/They don’t have his cool, they don’t have his stylе/Yeah, none of thesе guys got nothing on mine (Nothing on mine)”
‘You Love Who You Love’ – Goddess Fortuna
Fortune is something Zara Larsson is familiar with, and we have to agree that finding someone that you love unconditionally is a source of true fortune and luck. Roman Goddess Fortuna ensures that our lives are full of luck and good fortune 🥠, whether we know when we need it most or not. Everything happens for a reason, and ‘You Love Who You Love,’ for a reason. This track is one of our favorites and the perfect way to bring the album to a middle ground.
“Girl, give him up (Give him up)/I’m tellin’ you as a friend/What he’s putting you through is too much/I told you enough/But you don’t wanna listen/You just tell me, “You love who you love””
‘End Of Time’ – Goddess Antevorta
Until the ‘End Of Time,’ we will be fans of Zara Larsson! The Roman Goddess of the future 🔮, Antevorta, would probably agree too. This goddess can see until the end of our time, and even manipulate our futures. Time is only a construct, thus we will be streaming this addicting track until the day we R.I.P 🪦!
“I want your love/To roll the dice/I put it all on you and I/Until the end of time/I want your love/To start a fire/And keep it burnin’ through the night/Baby, until the end of time”
‘Nothing’ – Goddess Juno
Reigning supreme above all, no one has ‘Nothing’ on Roman Goddess Juno! She’s the goddess of married women 🤱 and mothers (including mother Zara)! There is ‘Nothing’ that Zara can’t do, but she surely cannot mess up a good song to dance in our rooms to! We will probably end up dragging our moms to the dancefloor with us….
“And that’s how it starts/Yeah, I know you well/When you say it’s nothin’/It all falls apart”
‘Escape’ – Goddess Abeona
With Zara’s songs, we are able to ‘Escape’ reality and travel to another musical dimension ✨. The Roman Goddess of travels and journeys is Abeona. She’ll make sure we get to our final destination safely, and hopefully, that final destination is a Zara Larsson concert!
“Ooh, you got my heart goin’, bae/Think we one and the same/Baby, be my escape/Maybe we could hop on a plane/Hear you callin’ my name/Baby, be my escape”
‘Soundtrack’ – Goddess Minerva
So far, Venus has been the ‘Soundtrack’ to our week, and we have zero complaints. The Roman Goddess of music, Minerva, would probably agree with us 😉. Minerva is a clear supporter of the arts as she also controls poetry and crafts. We love a crafty queen! We know this song would be at the top of her godly playlist!
“Anytime the rain starts coming down/Baby, I go back there in your arms/Wastin’ our youth on each other that beautiful summer/We lost one another/But we’ll always have the soundtrack/Of us fallin’ into love, yeah/And I know that we can’t go back/But we’ll always have the soundtrack”
‘Venus’ – Goddess Venus
Of course, we had to talk about goddess Venus here! Throughout the song, Zara pays her respects to the Roman Goddess of love, fertility, and beauty 💄 and also compares the feeling of falling in love to that of a supernova. We had high expectations for the album’s title track, and they were certainly met! This song is quite different from anything we’ve heard from Zara thus far, and we can’t wait to hear more of this sound in the future!
“Oh, Venus, like a supernova/I can’t stop this overwhelming feeling/You got me fallin’ in love/And everybody here can see us/My world is upside down/Oh, Venus, you turn my heart around”
‘The Healing’ – Goddess Salus
Trust us, we wish this wasn’t the end of Venus! We’ve gone on a 12-track journey of self-love and joy, and we wish it could go on forever. Roman Goddess Salus is the goddess of healing, safety, and welfare. As we end this musical journey, Salus surely has healed our broken hearts ❤️🩹 with Zara’s songs.
“But can I be with you after the healing/After the healing is done?/Can I be with you after the hurting?/After the monsters in my head are finally gone?/But can I be with you after thе healing?”
We’ve certainly taken a journey through Mt. Olympus, meeting all the most revered Roman goddesses. Along with each song on Venus, they’ve all taught us valuable lessons about healing a broken heart and loving the skin you’re in. What was your favorite song from the new album!?
