It’s never too early to start the year with the release of amazing music! 2023 is already looking up with the comeback of GOT7‘s Yugyeom. His new single, ‘Ponytail,’ featuring Sik-K, is everything we didn’t know we needed!
Like most GOT7 members, Yugyeom debuted as a soloist back in 2020. With his debut, he released his first mini-album, Point of View: U, and that’s all we needed to fall for him as a soloist. Last year, Yugyeom released a single album, Take You Down, and, of course, had a comeback with GOT7. Now, he’s finally back as a soloist with ‘Ponytail!’
‘Ponytail’ is everything we love about Yugyeom’s music, and so much more. He sticks to the R&B sound he explored on his first EP, but mixes in new, more trendy sounds and rhythms. Apart from Yugyeom’s smooth, captivating voice, Sik-K’s verse is flawlessly incorporated into the song and adds so much to Yugyeom’s vibe.
What’s also very memorable about the release of ‘Ponytail’ is its music video. We’ve seen a lot of Y2K influence in the K-Pop scene in the last year, and this is Yugyeom’s own unique take. It gives off perfect 90’s and 2000s vibes – from the colors to the settings, and even the way it is filmed. The aesthetics are so on point and fit Yugyeom’s style and vibe incredibly well, as well as ‘Ponytail’ as a song.
This new single is by far one of Yugyeom’s most addictive and catchy songs. It might be a very laid-back song, but it is also strangely uplifting and filled with energy. ‘Ponytail’ is overall such a refreshing release as Yugyeom takes on what we loved about his first releases and takes it a step further while exploring different styles and music genres. The incorporation of trumpets and other effects makes the track an effortless masterpiece.
This new release might just be the start of a new era for Yugyeom. And we can’t wait to see what else he has in store for us this year! One thing’s for sure, he’s off to an amazing start. 2023 is already looking incredible.
