Paramore Take Us Back To French Class With Their Newest Single, ‘C’est Comme Ça’

After Laughter, Paramore’s most recent album, was released in 2017 and blessed us with bangers such as ‘Hard Times’ and ‘Rose Coloured Boy.’ In the time since, the band has been fairly quiet, aside from the release of Hayley Williams’ two solo albums in 2020 and 2021. However, following the announcement of their upcoming sixth studio album, Paramore is officially back and better than ever with the release of their newest single, ‘C’est Comme Ça.’

‘C’est Comme Ça’ is a chaotic track that draws on a variety of different influences, using elements of the indie, punk, and dance-punk genres to create an energetic atmosphere. The vibe of this song is incredibly different for Paramore, interestingly featuring spoken-word verses as opposed to Hayley’s regular style of singing. This was a refreshing change to hear and we think the band pulled it off flawlessly.

Lyrically, meanwhile, the song discusses the idea of changing your lifestyle and having to grow accustomed to a lack of chaos. This is highlighted best through lyrics such as “It’s my dependence on the friction that really hinders my progression” and “In a single year, I’ve aged one hundred // My social life, a chiropractic appointment.” These feelings are also reflected in the title of the song, as the translated meaning of ‘C’est Comme Ça’ is similar to the English phrase “that’s just how it is.”

When talking about the song, Hayley described how it reflects the thoughts and feelings of the band members at this point in their lives. Hayley said:

“I’m trying to get un-addicted to a survival narrative. The idea of imminent doom is less catastrophic to me than not knowing anything about the future or my part in it. The guys and I are all in much more stable places in our lives than ever before. And somehow that is harder for me to adjust to.”
