Hozier Makes His Journey Through The Nine Circles Of Hell For ‘Francesca’

Much like we think everyone was, when we first heard Hozier would be releasing new music and going on tour, we were and still are in shock. He dropped Eat Your Young, and it made us realize why we missed hearing new tracks from Hozier, especially with the vocals in the beginning 👀.

And now here we are, he is already on tour (sadly will not make a stop in our state), but we do have his newest release, ‘Francesca,’ as well as an announcement of an album, Unreal Unearth, set to release August 18th! You can preorder and pre-save the album here! And now back to ‘Francesca.’

‘Francesca’

‘Francesca’ is chapter one, for us at least, of Unreal Unearth, as it gives us a little sneak peek at what we should expect from Hozier’s journey toward the upcoming album. ‘Francesca’ is based on the tale of Francesca de Rimini, which you can find in Dante’s Divine Comedy, where Dante discovers her and her lover Paolo. The track, in particular, is about the second circle of hell, aka lust, as well as the immense love and passion that can go into a relationship. Now, y’all, we love Hozier’s vocals in everything he has released, but we especially loved his isolated vocals at the beginning; we also love his powerful vocals during the chorus, and the overlapping vocals in the outro. We especially love when producers overlap vocals like they did in this track. Hozier’s really good at writing lyrics about yearning and being in love in many different ways; we can all learn a thing or two from him.

You can check out Hozier’s letter about his upcoming album, as well as ‘Francesca’ down below.

Now like we said, Hozier is amazing at writing tracks about different kinds of love, so we thought we should recommend you some tracks to stream alongside ‘Francesca.’

‘Sunlight’

“Know that I would gladly be / The Icarus to your certainty”

‘Work Song’

“I’m so full of love, I could barely eat”

‘Moment’s Silence (Common Tongue)’

“And the reason comes on the common tongue of your loving me”

…😏

*sigh* to be able to write loving words as Hozier does, one can only hope for that much talent.
