During Tumblr’s Peak These Unreal Unearth Lyric Posts Would’ve Found Their Way To Your Feed

We’ve had Hozier’s Unreal Unearth for a couple of days now, and honestly, we haven’t listened to anything else since.

Y’all know we are some of the biggest Hozier fans. From his vocals, to the instrumentals, to his lyrics, we can’t help but fall in love with every project he releases. Now Unreal Unearth, in our opinion, hits differently than his other releases. We can tell he is leaning even more into both his heritage as well as his inspiration from black artists. Because if you listen back to his first tracks, like any artist, his sound has truly developed. Especially the instrumentals; they are probably our favorite from any album he has done so far. His vocals, even though we never knew it could happen, have more oomph to them. And the story, we have to talk about the story.

The story of Unreal Unearth is what really pulled us in from the beginning, as this album has a continuous story. Though it is about yearning, it is a story about love, heartbreak, and life (all of which we have covered in past releases). And with getting the album, we finally have all nine circles of hell (featured in Dante’s Divine Comedy) covered. You can read back to our coverage of ‘Unknown / Nth’ and what circles he has covered thus far.

Lyrics

Now we could’ve given you a list of some of our favorite tracks off the album *cough* ‘First Time,’ ‘I, Carrion (Icarian),’ ‘De Selby (part 2),’ ‘All Things End,’ ‘Anything But,’ and ‘Unknown / Nth,’ *cough,* but maybe you don’t want that. So why not get a little creative, much like Hozier does? If you’ve gotten this far, you’ve read the title, so yes! We’ll be giving you some lyric posts that you more than likely would’ve seen come across your feeds when Tumblr peaked (around 2014, it’s really up for debate). Let’s get into it!

‘I, Carrion (Icarian)’

“And though I burn how could I fall? When I’m lifted by every word you say to me”

‘Abstract (Psychopomp)’

“I remember the view, streetlight in the dark blue. The moment I knew I’d no choice but to love you”

‘All Things End’

“The last time I felt your weight on my chest, you said “We didn’t get it right but, love, we did our best””

‘First Time’

“And the first time that you kissed me, I drank dry the River Lethe”

‘Francesca’

“Heaven is not fit to house a love like you and I”

‘Son of Nyx’

Honestly, we couldn’t miss the chance of inserting ‘Son of Nyx’ in any list of ours. We love it.

You know we would’ve all been eating these lyrics up from Unreal Unearth, even making edits to our favorite ships, back then, and even now, we are looking at you, Good Omens fans 👀.
