We were already stoked for 8.1.23, aka the day that truly belongs to Arizona emo group, The Maine. To celebrate this once in a lifetime occasion, they’re playing a show in Denver, CO with Real Friends and Knuckle Puck! But like always, they had something else up their sleeve: a brand new album. TM9 is officially their self-titled album, The Maine. To kick off their self-titled era, they released two (2) new songs, ‘blame’ and ‘how to exit a room.’ We can’t stop listening to The Maine’s new music.
Yes, it may be their ninth studio album and yes, they’ve been a band for 16 years. But we love how they’re doing a self-titled album. With the exception of XOXO, every TM album cover has alternated between color and black and white. So it’s very fitting. Thinking about the vinyl already? Us too. The pre-order begins June 20th for Pillar members and June 21st for the general public. You don’t want to miss out.
The Maine Tracklist
‘dose no. 2’
‘how to exit a room’
‘blame’
‘leave in five’
‘the mood i’m in / jsyk’
‘i think about you all the time’
‘thoughts i have while lying in bed’
‘funny how?’
‘cars & caution signs’
‘spiraling’
‘blame’
This isn’t the first track of the album, but it was the first of the singles. And ‘how to exit a room’ actually comes before it on the album. But this was the best possible way to kick off the new era. It’s such a high-energy song and we love how the song starts out. The music video includes fans and was shot at a local Arizona music venue, The Nile Theater. Side note, we love The Nile.
Lyrics We Love
“Artificial altruism.
Looking for a fuss to give,
and all you want is just another couple hundred
likes.”
‘how to exit a room’
We love the vibe of this song too. The beat is so catchy and it will get stuck in your head /pos. For this song, we actually don’t have to refer to the lyrics, so maybe it truly is a new era for them /lh. Not only should you be playing these songs on repeat because they’re amazing, but if you listen to this and then ‘blame,’ it’ll give you a better sense of the album because this song comes before it on the tracklist.
Lyrics We Love
“They play my favorite song,
but somehow play it wrong.
I put a smile on,
in order to belong.”
