“Should my heart reveal itself to be more than a muscle”
Starting off strong, AURORA offers a unique perspective on a broken heart. At the end of the day, a heart is a muscle. But it feels like so much more than that. She uses this to remind herself that the pain is temporary. This line sets the scene for the rest of the song, which is a perfect balance between a realistic struggle after a loss and remaining optimistic.
“We’re both good people and we both deserve peace”
This lyric makes us look at a breakup differently. ‘Some Type of Skin’ is about recovery and moving on, but AURORA reminds us that sometimes nobody is truly at fault. Or we’re all at fault. Whichever way you want to look at it. This line tells us that sometimes relationships don’t work out, even without a villain.
“Love the things I know might disappear”
We love ‘Some Type of Skin’ so much because it allows us to appreciate our life even as we deal with heartbreak. AURORA recognizes that this experience is making her stronger, and there’s still so much to love in her life.
“I’ll crawl where everybody runs”
Because one person’s pace doesn’t have to be the same as everybody else’s. As far as we’re concerned, moving at all is an accomplishment. And we’re glad AURORA is here to remind us of that.
“I build some type of skin”
Of course we had to include the title lyric. This pulls the song together so well. The repetition at the end of the song sounds like she’s reminding herself of this. And we hope the mantra worked, because she got a genius song out of it!
