Perrie—who not only seems to have momentarily untangled herself from one of the biggest girl bands, Little Mix, but also her last name, in which case for all you newcomers is Edwards, by the way—stands cliffside in her latest music video for ‘Forget About Us.’ Its location is pinned as Cape Town, South Africa. Her silhouette with a low bun blended into the dull sky hues, some washed-out pink and grey ombre. Perhaps the first time she spends contemplating her old relationship even though she is entirely happy in her new one. Quite an odd juxtaposition, eh?
Considering that Perrie’s song is titled ‘Forget About Us.’ A “don’t want” is only ever interwoven into the lyrics. The case point spiraled into when she was on those beachy rocks: “I don’t want you ever to forget about us,” fighting for airtime with the clashing tidal waves. Only then do we realize that she does want to keep these old footage-stylized memories. But maybe there is supposed to be a jarring of emotions. Or it’s more like sea salt. Though healing, there’s still that instant sting when it touches your skin. Memories of your ex—ex-lover, ex-friend, we’re sure Perrie isn’t holding it selective—swirl in your head. Sometimes, it’s not the person we’re longing for but the version of ourselves that we were back then!
A Nolstagic Seaside
Using old-recorded footage clashing against moments from her in the now, Perrie and the ‘Forget About Us’ music video director, Jake Nava, illustrate the notion that nothing is ever wrapped up in a neat bow. It’s a constant theme that conveys that the old and new life are nearly parallel. Though the very fact that it ends with Perrie repeating a scene that we initially saw played out using the video camera effect in real time, her playfully under the covers shows that she would rather be in the now. Those playful, flirtatious sentiments are only reserved for her current lover.
Summer is also an aesthetically pleasing backdrop for Perrie’s ‘Forget About Us’ music video, from solo poolside shenanigans to driving down the coastal highway. Therefore, no matter what season you’re currently perched in from your side of the world, we want to get you amped up for those sticky, hot days! How better than a pool party? Call your best Mixers around and host a seaside extravaganza. We’ll even help you with some game ideas!
Stylish Charades
What under the sea cove isn’t complete without a treasure chest? None, absolutely none. And what’s even better is when the said treasure is clothes! These clothes, of course, have to do with Perrie herself, bits and bobs that can be used to recreate her iconic looks throughout her eras. On time, your job is for your partygoers to style these looks, one for each person. Then, take turns guessing which outfit refers to a Perrie getup!
Musical Clams
We can’t bring every synonym related to the beach into the mix—yep, there’s a twisting smirk across our lips for that unplanned pun—without mentioning Little Mix’s ‘Holiday.’ Featured on Confetti, this bubbly, siren-like tune that we can only suppose would also be performed by oceanic creatures alike, even has the girls dressing up as mermaids! What does this game suggest? Taking a note out of musical chairs, everyone straps on mermaid tails but has to fight for the last rock to perch on. Underneath every seat is a fill-in-the-blank lyric from ‘Holiday.’ The answer has to be said correctly by the person the host of the game deems to be fighting for the last chosen seat. If the answer isn’t correct, they get touseled back to the shoreline, and the person out of the game reclaims their position.
Cocktails By The Seashore
We always see how creative fandoms are when making drinks around song titles! So why not get in on the fun? Choose someone to be the taste tester and then everyone else, a song. With the same ingredients, make drinks that fit the theme of that song, whether alcoholic or not. The judge then presents everyone with a score. Sounds delicious to us.
Seashell Manifestations
The other Little Mix music video we think of when we fade into summer is ‘Shout Out to My Ex.’ Not only does it feature the girls snapping up an Instagram storm by the poolside, but they’re channeling their inner Britney Spears Crossroads by embarking on a road trip, both scorching activities! At one point, there’s a letterbox, and okay, maybe merfolk don’t communicate through letters, but certainly seashells. Gather some large ones, and then write out something you’d like to see come out from this new Perrie era! It can be absolutely anything. You can even simultaneously decorate the seashell with paint.
See? There’s no way that any of your partygoers will be able to forget about your Little Mix-inspired pool party anytime soon. Just as much as we won’t be able to stop repeating Perrie’s ‘Forget About Us’ music video, luckily for us, YouTube has a loop feature to help us! What activity are you most wanting to do?
