We’ve known of Rosé’s talent for years, and we were sure that when the day would come, she would give us one of the best albums ever. And the day is finally here. After the historic success of ‘APT.‘ and the unforgettable heartbreak she caused us with ‘number one girl,’ the full album rosie is finally here, and it is everything we expected, yet so much more. Rosé showcased incredible songwriting, beautiful artistry and pushed her vocals even further. Every track in rosie is an essential piece to the story Rosé wants to tell, and here’s our track-by-track.
The Pre-releases: ‘APT.’ & ‘number one girl’
Rosé introduced us to her world with the already iconic ‘APT.,’ featuring the one and only Bruno Mars. This song was fun, unserious, and goofy in the best way possible. The melodies in ‘APT.’ made it so catchy and addictive. Its bright energy brought all the joy back into our lives. It is unlike any track in her album but also on the radio right now, and it was (and still is) a moment in history.
The second taste of rosie came with ‘number one girl,’ a vulnerable ballad that showcased Rosé’s vocals and her honest songwriting. This song explores the need for validation when not feeling good enough. It serves as the opening track to lead us into a story about heartbreak, and toxicity but also healing and moving on. And that’s the story Rosé tells us in rosie.
‘3am’
With an acoustic guitar, enticing melodies, and a youthful anthem-like feeling, ‘3am’ is an instant highlight in Rosé’s album. The song in itself lures you into a new world in Rosé‘s storyline. While ‘3am’ is technically a love song, it’s also a perfect introduction to a deteriorating relationship where the flaws and the red flags are already telling. While Rosé seems to fight the world to defend her love, the cracks of what’s to come are already glaring.
‘two years’
Rosé serves pop perfection in rosie, and ‘two years’ is an example of that. This is a slow, sad song about struggling to move on from a relationship that has been over for two years. It’s full of nostalgia and love at the same time. But it’s not a ballad; it incorporates pop song elements perfectly, creating a build-up that accompanies the depth of the emotions.
‘toxic till the end’
After ‘APT.’ and ‘number one girl,’ Rosé‘s third single is ‘toxic till the end’ – and yeah, we get why. The pop perfection is present here from the beginning to the end, from the production to the melodies, from the first line to the last one. It presents some of Rosé’s most genius and wittiest lyrics. It represents what it is like to be stuck in a toxic relationship where both people make each other a worse person. Yet, the melodies and production make you feel like you’re on a road trip, windows open, and wind in your hair. It’s youthful and nostalgic but also full of anger and resentment. ‘toxic till the end’ is real, raw, and emotional. If anything, the music video starring Evan Mock makes the song even more aesthetic and gorgeous and showcases Rosé’s artistry like never before.
‘drinks or coffee’
‘drinks or coffee’ drifts away from the overall theme of toxicity and heartbreak of rosie, adding its necessary fresh touch to the album. The vibey, laid-back song tells the story of falling for someone, the casual beginning, and the initial butterflies. It’s cheeky in its lyrics and lighthearted in its melody.
‘gameboy’
Right after the boost of energy ‘APT.’ gives to the album, we get ‘gameboy.’ This is the ideal song to follow ‘APT.’ It mixes a bright energy with Rosé‘s storyline. She pulls again some of her wittiest and most intelligent songwriting. With ‘gameboy,’ Rosé calls out her ex for his bad behavior and what he put her through. Despite its easy-going and laid-back melodies, the song is full of resentment, but it also screams, “I’m over it.”
‘stay a little longer’
Rosé‘s voice always sounds gorgeous, whether it’s in powerful, energic songs or laid-back songs, but of course, she shines the brightest in ballads. ‘stay a little longer’ gave us her best moment vocally and the most heartbreaking moment as she begs for someone to stay despite knowing the goodbye is inevitable. It’s vulnerability at its most heartbreaking. Her voice sounds raw, raspy, and absolutely incredible over this soul-inspired track with some of her most beautiful and heartbreaking lyrics. ‘stay a little longer’ is an immediate gem.
‘not the same’
The combo of an acoustic guitar and Rosé‘s unique vocals will always be one of our favorites. ‘not the same’ is the best track to portray that. We don’t need more for it to touch our hearts. ‘not the same’ explores the disillusion that comes from someone you love breaking your heart and changing. Rosé presents her strong stance and personality in this song, which makes the song hit even more.
‘call it the end’
Rosé already broke our hearts in a million different ways with her songs, but somehow, the worst case of heartbreak is ‘call it the end.’ This beautiful ballad explores the confusion that’s left after a breakup. It’s about not knowing where you stand because the relationship is such a back-and-forth, never clear. The lyric “Do we have a future? Or should I call the end?” encapsulates the feelings and emotions behind the song perfectly, and it is one of the most real and raw lyrics in rosie.
‘too bad for us’
‘call it the end’ is the perfect transition into one of the most beautiful tracks in rosie, ‘too bad for us.’ This track feels like a goodbye, where all the pain is washed away, and it’s about accepting that love just didn’t work, and that’s okay. The song’s build-up is gorgeous as ‘too bad for us’ grows into a grandiose song that creates a world on its own of past pain, acceptance, and grief all at once.
‘dance all night’
While ‘too bad for us’ is acceptance, ‘dance all night’ is the aftermath of heartbreak and the final page where not only is the pain gone, but the pain doesn’t matter anymore. ‘dance all night’ has one of the best rhythms of the album and makes it so that it’s impossible not to smile. It’s cathartic, bright, hopeful, and it’s the final step: moving on.
