Jennie needed one single solo release last year for us to know that she would own 2025. Released in October, ‘Mantra‘ was one of the most iconic releases of the year. And yet, in 2025, Jennie is coming stronger with the official release of her first solo full-length studio album, Ruby. ‘Mantra‘ was the first taste of this new era, and the album’s announcement was soon followed by the gorgeous release of the music video for ‘ZEN.’ Now, Jennie just gave us the second official single of Ruby and the first of many iconic collaborations to prepare us for March 7th.
‘Love Hangover’
Jennie has always had many sides to her. She’s always been a versatile artist. And it’s clear that she’s ready to explore them all in Ruby with different genres and influences. In other words, ‘Love Hangover’ is nothing like ‘Mantra’ or ‘ZEN.’ This new track has a unique vibe to it. It’s a groovy, soft R&B track that feels luring and sensual. Jennie explores the complexities of love and going back, over and over, to someone who is bad for her. Despite its mysterious energy, ‘Love Hangover’ is intimate, raw, and vulnerable in a surprising way, and Jennie’s versatile vocals fit this complex energy to perfection. Collaborating with Dominic Fike, his rap in the second verse completes the song and gives ‘Love Hangover’ even more dynamism.
As much as ‘Love Hangover’ is an unforgettable track, what makes this release even more memorable is its music video. ‘Mantra‘ was all about showing off an impressive performance with gorgeous visuals, and it went absolutely viral with its iconic and addictive choreography. ‘ZEN’ was grand, artistic, and beyond beautiful and impressive. ‘Love Hangover’ takes another route, the route of comedy – and, oh, we’re so back with fun music videos, this one is a blast. Jennie takes the concept of the toxic relationship that keeps hurting over and over again, that inventive metaphor of love giving her a hangover, and gives it a fun twist by showcasing several scenarios where she dies during dates. It’s cheeky and fun, and the cherry on top is having Charles Melton there.
‘Love Hangover’ is a must-listen and a must-watch, and its music video will only make you love the song more. This is how you do a music video.
Jennie is not only releasing an album, she’s releasing the album of the year. ‘Love Hangover’ is only the first of many collaborations in Jennie’s Ruby – including Dua Lipa, Childish Gambino, Doechii, and Kali Uchis. With only three songs out, Jennie has proved she’s ready to explore all the sides of her artistry and talent, and she’s killing it with every single one. We already know Ruby is going to be a defining release for 2025, and March 7th couldn’t get here any faster.
You can pre-order and pre-save Ruby, out on March 7th, here.
