Just when we thought Xdinary Heroes had reached the peak of their exploring and hard-rock sound, they’re back to reaffirm their unique sound and push it even further, giving one of the most intense, artistic, and inspired releases of all of K-Pop with Beautiful Mind. Taking inspiration from Queen, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, and even George Orwell’s 1984, Xdinary Heroes just created a mini-album that reinvents K-Pop and pushes the genre further than ever before.
‘Beautiful Life’
It is no exaggeration to say that ‘Beautiful Life’ is one of the best and most ambitious title tracks released by Xdinary Heroes and in the entirety of K-Pop. Both its theme and sound break so many barriers. ‘Beautiful Life’ is their most hard-rock title track yet, but it also mixes that influence with opera rock, almost reminiscent of The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance and even ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen. ‘Beautiful Life’ is an absolute masterpiece with the way it takes you completely by surprise and has satisfying twists and turns—each one more genius than the other. Each part of the song highlights one side of Xdinary Heroes’ sound and talent in different ways: the lyrics, the instrumental, and the vocals. Both the refrain and the bridge are the big highlights of ‘Beautiful Life,’ but every single piece around it is what makes it work so well.
But ‘Beautiful Life’ is not just a masterpiece in its composition. Xdinary Heroes tackles a theme of feeling lost and looking for a better life, but one that breaks away from the norms. They search for a life that is more than what society dictates they need to love. All of this is portrayed obviously through the sound as they break the norms of a regular song format, but also with the lyrics. Xdinary Heroes directly quote George Orwell’s 1984 in the pre-chorus with the lines, “War is peace and freedom’s slavery, ignorance is strength.” In the book, these lines are part of the party’s slogan that keeps this society controlled with the illusion of war.
‘Beautiful Life’ is more than just a musical masterpiece. Xdinary Heroes truly push the boundaries to give substance and real meaning behind their lyrics. The implications of such quotes are heavy and thought out perfectly. It gives the song so many layers and levels that you can go back a million times to it and still find something new. ‘Beautiful Life’ is the ultimate proof of Xdinary Heroes‘ genius as musicians.
Beautiful Mind
‘Beautiful Life’ is enough to blow absolutely everyone away. Still, it is far from the only thing about this comeback that proves the quality of Xdinary Heroes‘ incredible sound and groundbreaking music. Every B-side in Beautiful Mind is another addition to an ever-growing masterful discography.
As soon as ‘FIGHT ME’ started, we knew we were about to go into Xdinary Heroes‘ heaviest work yet. It opens Beautiful Mind with an absolute bang, heavy guitars, powerful drums, striking vocals, and a bridge to die for. ‘FIGHT ME’ truly feels like a fight scene in a movie, encapsulated into a song. Its dark tone sets the perfect atmosphere for the rest of Beautiful Mind. ‘more that i like’ is the perfect representation of how Xdinary Heroes manage to mix incredible pop melodies with hard-rock instrumentation. This third track is catchy and infectious but will also have you headbanging throughout. It showcases all the versatility Xdinary Heroes have to offer in their music.
‘DIAMOND’ is a banger of a song with all-English lyrics that keeps the energy at its maximum in the mini-album. ‘DIAMOND’ is a dark yet hopeful track about struggling but finding light within yourself, and it has one of their most beautiful melodies. ‘Supernatural’ is the song that slows things down, but it doesn’t stop it from elevating Beautiful Mind to another level of masterful. ‘Supernatural’ is a vulnerable, emotional song about overcoming the odds and your struggles. With its shimmer of light and hope, the genre of opera rock fits the theatrical emotions of the song so well, and the members’ vocals are as mind-blowing as ever. ‘Supernatural’ is an easy highlight in Beautiful Mind— Xdinary Heroes‘ ballads always hit.
The stripped-down intro to ‘George the Lobster’ serves as the perfect transition from ‘Supernatural’ into the wild ride that is the last two tracks in Beautiful Mind. ‘George the Lobster’ has a bass that scratches the right side of our brain and an instrumental that will blow your mind. Coming back with the mixture of a hard rock instrumental and a satisfying pop melody, ‘George the Lobster’ is one of their most ambitious songs. And there are no words to describe the effect of the second verse. ‘BBB (Bitter But Better)’ is the lighthearted rock and roll-inspired track we needed to end this perfect mini-album. The rhythm in this one is infectious, and it works exceptionally well with such a fun and witty song. If there is one song that will never leave your head, it’s this one. Not only does the instrumental go hard throughout the song, especially the second verse, but we even get a guitar solo that wraps everything perfectly.
Beautiful Mind is a genius release that takes many listens to grasp every detail fully. There are many layers to the vocals, the instrumentation, and the meaning of the songs. Believe it or not, Beautiful Mind gets even better with every listen. And while we process all of that, Xdinary Heroes are ready to go on tour in the United States all throughout this summer. On top of that, they’re reaching one of their biggest milestones by performing at Lollapalooza in Chicago for the first time, and we already know every single one of these songs will be perfect for a festival setting. Needless to say, Xdinary Heroes are ready to change the world in 2025.
