BUZZKILL is a complete masterclass on how to make a genre-less album that understands every aspect of what it means to be sonically cohesive while still experimenting. Lyn Lapid has truly outdone herself, which is huge considering what a stellar discography she already has! We were lucky enough to get to chat with Lyn Lapid ahead of the release of BUZZKILL, all about the creative process, growth, the tracklist, and much more!

Hi, Lyn! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! To start us off, how would you describe your music to someone who is tuning in for the first time?
Hello! Of course. With my new album, BUZZKILL, I’d describe the music as raw, almost uncomfortably vulnerable, and honest. Sonically, I try to do more with less in my music by having the instrumentation focus on bass, keys, drums, and guitar, and I think recently I’ve been loving incorporating jazz and R&B influences.
We are just a few days out from the release of BUZZKILL. How are you feeling leading up to this release?
To be honest, overwhelmed. I never knew how much goes into releasing an album that isn’t just writing the music. Promoting the music and the tour, along with the vinyl, has been quite a handful, but I’m grateful that I have a team that helps me do all of these things. I’ve been anchored to my phone 24/7, though, which has been quite a lot.
Four out of the twelve tracks have been released pre-album. What goes into the decision of what you want fans to hear before getting the entire project?
I feel like the singles I released properly represented the new and different direction I’m taking my music compared to what I have released before. I wanted my listeners to be caught off guard, and so when I released the first lead single, ‘Coraline,’ that was exactly the reaction I got, which I was so excited about.
‘death wish’ is the latest release from the record. When we first listened to it, it immediately became so visual for us. And when we got to see the visuals that went along with the video, they felt so perfect. Can you tell us about the process of crafting that music video and what the vision behind it was?
The song is about a funny conversation I had with a friend who didn’t want to see me in a relationship out of fear of losing me to my significant other. The feeling was mutual, honestly, and so that’s why I wrote about it. I wanted the music video to match the song’s honesty and also channel the lightheartedness and comedic aspects in the lyrics. We realized that poisoning the boy my friend was interested in in the music video was the perfect way to illustrate the song.
‘Producer Man’ was released in 2020. When you look back at the artist who released that song and the artist who is about to release BUZZKILL, what do you see as the greatest area of creative growth?
I think it’s my complete surrender to being vulnerable and honest in my lyrics and storytelling. ‘Producer Man’ and BUZZKILL are both all about personal experiences that happened to me, but I think I show the growth by completely focusing on making music that is true to myself as an artist and a person, which I think I was still trying to figure out when I first started making music.
You’re getting so close to tour! Is there a song on BUZZKILL you’re most looking forward to seeing come alive on tour?
I love my song ‘Backup Plan.’ My drummer described it as “church-y,” which I will fully take as a compliment. That song goes hard live.
Something that we noticed is that all of the song titles are all lowercase, and the album title is all uppercase. What is the thought process behind that distinction?
To be honest, I just like how that looks. It helps me differentiate between the album BUZZKILL as a whole and the title track, ‘buzzkill.’
Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, what can fans expect as we go into the second half of 2025? What is in the cards post-album release?
Expect a completely new and sick live set from me, that we have spent months and months putting together. I also hope to take my concerts internationally and share my music with the rest of the world.
