SHINee‘s back, and the first thing we need to say is that we are not okay! Our emotional levels are at their peak, and we’re absolutely in shambles after listening to ‘Poet | Artist.’ And, we’re more than certain every Shawol out there is going through it, as well.

Five Voices Together Again
SHINee’s Poet | Artist is a two-track single album that holds so much meaning for both the fans and the artists. We almost don’t know where to start talking about this release, but we are about to be honest here. The anniversary drop really made us lose our train of thought as we tried processing everything about it.
So, where do we start? The name: Poet | Artist is also the title of the last album released by the late Jonghyun. Here is where our emotions start acting up. The connection was instantly made when SHINee revealed the name of this new musical project. It turns out there was quite a notable reason for that. The title track, which carries the same name as the single album, was also written by Jonghyun himself. The meaningful parts don’t end there.
The members of SHINee came to a decision to not only release ‘Poet | Artist,’ but to keep the original demo parts. So, for those who came in blind to listening to it: yes, you are not wrong! You are actually hearing Jonghyun’s vocals in the song! You most likely noticed how the bridge was saved just for him. A clear audio of his well-known, unmistakable voice brings us a heartfelt sense of nostalgia. Seeing the members dancing in the music video during that part adds to the sensation, truly confirming that it’s a definite highlight. And then, when their vocals explode right after the bridge ends, we are once again emotional in all the good ways.
It feels absolutely insane to be able to get a five-vocal SHINee comeback in 2025, yet here we are. Think about how far back this song was written. Now think about the year it gets to see the light of day. You can’t tell us it doesn’t fit so perfectly with the group. It’s colorful and refreshing. However you look at it, it just screams SHINee.
‘Poet | Artist’
The name SHINee holds a strong presence on its own. The group has captivated so many hearts on an international scale and has helped popularize K-pop worldwide. Turning heads since their debut, SHINee never stopped improving, constantly showing us new sides. Even in their solo works, the members never slow down. They have truly transcended frames while staying true to themselves.
And ‘Poet | Artist’ is exactly about that: being free to explore new things. Not just in an artistic way, but also by inviting listeners to do the same. The freeing chorus is one of the peak moments of the song. It portrays that message with so much passion, as shown by the members through their vocals and choreography. Taking inspiration from SHINee, it really feels like we, as fans, can and will also shine like ‘Starlight.’ This is the beauty of music. It can have such a big impact; it can bring up emotions and inspire. And SHINee are doing just that.
After listening to ‘Poet | Artist’ so many times already, we wanted to say, thank you, Jonghyun, for writing this absolutely lovely song. Thank you, Onew, Key, Minho, and Taemin, for always finding ways to show and affirm that SHINee is, and always will be, five.
