There is absolutely no denying that SHINee is one of the most influential and prolific groups of all time. Not just in K-Pop, but in music, period. Since their debut in 2008, they’ve extended K-Pop’s global reach and convinced countless numbers of our (other) faves to become idols. If, somehow, you don’t believe us, then we’ll let our faves prove it to you! Performing at least one SHINee cover is a rite of passage for any idol, and here are some of our favorites.
ATEEZ – ‘Sherlock’
Spoiler alert: ‘Sherlock’ is a very popular choice when artists are choosing which SHINee song to cover! ATEEZ’s version is so iconic, it’s hard to believe that it was in their rookie year! We loved getting to see more of Hongjoong singing, and lowkey Jongho is one of the only vocalists who can keep up with Jonghyun’s runs.
n.SSign – ‘Lucifer’
KCON regularly delivers with legendary cover stages, and for that, we will always be grateful! n.SSign’s performance at the 2024 Japan festival was no exception, and we’re obsessed with their live vocals in this ‘Lucifer’ cover!
Billlie – ‘Don’t Call Me’
Never checked out one of Billlie’s dance covers? Now’s your perfect chance! These girls slay such a huge variety of dance covers, from NCT 127 to Cardi B! Their version of SHINee’s ‘Don’t Call Me’ is probably our favorite though…
YEONJUN – ‘Guilty’
We have our first cover of a SHINee solo track, and who better to deliver that than Yeonjun? He gave us such an incredible rendition of ‘Guilty’ at the GDAs that he even got a shout-out from the original artist, Taemin. And had to reprise it at TXT’s fanlive a few months later, too.
IU – ‘Sherlock’
One of the most influential K-Pop soloists of all time with one of the most influential K-Pop groups of all time? Sign us up! IU did such a great job of rearranging ‘Sherlock’ to fit her style; it’s gorgeous! Bonus points for the fact that you also get to watch SHINee cover ‘Dear Name,’ too.
ZEROBASEONE – ‘Sherlock’
See, we told you ‘Sherlock’ was popular! ZEROBASEONE’s cover felt so much like them while still honoring the original artists, which we love. Also, choosing to cover a 5-member group as iconic as SHINee in your first performance as 5 members was such a clever way to make a statement!
AKIS – ‘Lucifer’
AKIS (aka “babies”) was a special stage at the 2022 KBS Song Festival, comprised of the maknaes of rookie girl groups from that year! NewJeans’ Hyein and Minji, LE SSERAFIM’s Eunchae, IVE’s Leeseo, and NMIXX’s Sullyoon ate this cover up! Can we ask for an AKIS reunion, please?
TOMORROW X TOGETHER – ‘Replay’
Super rookies TXT covering SHINee’s debut song? We swear every fandom loved this performance. No one loved it more than Taehyun, though, TXT’s resident SHAWOL! TXT gave us enthusiasm, great live vocals, and truly embodied the essence of ‘Replay!’
TWICE – ‘MOVE’
Just four days before TXT’s ‘Replay,’ TWICE took on Taemin’s ‘MOVE.’ Mina, Momo, Dahyun, and Chaeyoung delivered one of the most iconic K-Pop covers of all time. There’s a reason (or several) that this performance has almost 20 million views! Not to mention 10 million more for the dance practices…
So, those are our fave pearl aqua performances! Which SHINee cover is your favorite? Don’t you just love how these videos show SHINee’s ever-enduring influence? Leave a comment below, hit us up on Twitter @TheHoneyPOP, on Facebook, or on Instagram!
