If there’s one book genre THP’s book team will forever try to get our hands on, it’s romantic fantasy! And we’re here to review K.A. Linde’s new romantasy, The Robin on the Oak Throne.
The Robin on the Oak Throne is the second book in The Oak and Holly Cycle trilogy. It picks up roughly five months after the end of book one, The Wren in the Holly Library. Kierse McKenna has been trying to learn about her past. But she somehow becomes roped into Graves’s schemes again to find yet another ancient artifact.
This romantasy trilogy keeps us absolutely hooked on the plot, and the second book sets up the conclusion beautifully. Here’s why we love The Robin on the Oak Throne by K.A. Linde!

Book Overview: The Robin On The Oak Throne
Content warnings: death of loved ones, murder, combat, violence, sex, drug and alcohol use, sex work, gang violence, gore, bodies, torture, forced captivity, kidnapping, weapons, medical procedures, vomit, mentions of abuse, genocide, colonization, infertility, and assault that is physical and sexual in nature (Please read at your discretion!)
Summary: Kierse McKenna just shattered the Monster Treaty. Again.
It wasn’t entirely her fault. The job was supposed to be simple: steal a goblin-made bracelet off of the Queen of the Nymphs in her own palace. Trade the bracelet for a way to uncover the truth about her past. Except everything goes sideways.
And then he shows up to save her.
Graves—the warlock who ensnared her, betrayed her, and left her to fend for herself. He’s a villain. A monster draped in charm and shadows. And gods help her, he always knows exactly what she wants.
But Graves never does anything for free. He has a job for his favorite little thief. One that will pit her against the most powerful monsters in existence, including his mortal enemy, the Oak King.
An ancient artifact has been located, and only together can they hope to steal it. She just has to let him in.
But once she lets a monster in, he’s impossible to forget…and even harder to resist.
Heist Planning
As if the heist in the first book wasn’t dangerous enough, the heist in The Robin on the Oak Throne is on another level! After a failed first attempt, Kierse, Graves, and their team must recruit the help of new and unexpected allies. They need to cover all their bases and prepare weeks in advance if they want to steal the Cauldron of Dagda. Even with the meticulous planning, however, multiple obstacles get in the way of everyone’s safe escape. The events after the heist throw the plot into even more chaos. We’re already eager to read the conclusion to this trilogy!
Complicated Feelings
Kierse does not trust Graves one bit in the beginning of The Robin on the Oak Throne. Understandable, considering all the information he withheld about her true identity in book one. But Graves wants to show how much he’s changed in the months they’ve spent apart. He shares a lot more about his plans, meetings, and past with her instead of hiding the information away. Their romantic relationship grows stronger and better than before. But they never have it easy. As fate would have it, Kierse soon learns about her apparent soulmate and the uncontrollable connection she feels around him. A soulmate who isn’t Graves.
A Lovable Cast
We enjoyed reading The Robin on the Oak Throne so much more because of the supporting characters! Kierse’s best friends, Gen and Ethan, start training their magic to strength their bond as a trio. The people Graves recruits for the heist (Laz, Schwartz, and Vale) are all endearing in their own way. Their comradery says a lot, given how much Graves preferred working alone before. Of course, we can’t forget the adorable couple: Nate, a werewolf alpha, and Maura, a human nurse. The ending may have had us screaming into the void, but we’re choosing to ignore the pain for now…🫠
A high-stakes heist, a romance with angst and twists, and a well-rounded cast. The chokehold that K.A. Linde’s The Robin on the Oak Throne has on us should be studied.
