We’re a Bad Idea, Right? focuses on 18-year-old Audrey, an aspiring glassblower who enters a fake relationship with her best friend Henry. She risks it all to pay for her glassblowing fellowship, renting out her family’s house while juggling the very real feelings she develops for Henry.
This new romance is a companion novel to the author’s 2025 book, While We’re Young. We get lovely cameos from Isa and James, who is actually Audrey’s cousin. There is so much to love about K. L. Walther’s We’re a Bad Idea, Right?, but we’ll give you our three main reasons for now.

Book Overview: We’re A Bad Idea, Right?
Content warnings: mention of divorce, drinking
Summary: Audrey Barbour has had enough of following the rules. Eighteen years of being the perfect daughter—exceptional grades, enviable college acceptances, tame dating history—and still, her parents don’t trust her enough to let her study her passion, glassblowing, on a prestigious fellowship.
So when her best friend Henry proposes an outrageous fake-dating scheme to win back his ex-girlfriend, it feels like the first step to shaking up her perfect life. And the second? That comes when Audrey’s parents go out of town, sparking a high-risk, high-reward solution to pay for her fellowship—renting out her family’s Connecticut mansion online. With the help of her new fake-boyfriend, it shouldn’t be hard to pull off…right?
But when her best intentions start to unravel, Audrey will have to reckon with who she is, what she wants, and what it really means to play life by her rules—all with her heart on the line.
Audrey & Henry’s Chemistry
There’s no denying that Audrey and Henry’s fake relationship is convincing enough in We’re a Bad Idea, Right? Even though Audrey hesitated with physical contact and PDA at first, everything started to feel natural after she and Henry talked over the terms. We absolutely loved the quieter, more intimate moments where they didn’t need to keep up the act. Their nonstop movie references and inside jokes were adorable, but those came from being best friends first. Henry just gets Audrey on all levels and becomes the perfect fake boyfriend.
The Chaotic Constellation Catering Team
We’re a Bad Idea, Right? introduces us to a group of teenagers we would’ve wanted to be friends with in high school. They work for the town’s local event planning firm alongside Audrey and Henry. Heads up, things got a little awkward at times because of Audrey’s crush Griff and Henry’s ex Ellie, who also work for Constellation Catering. But everyone in this group, those two included, comes through when it matters. They bring their event planning and hospitality skills to help Audrey, as well as good vibes and reliable connections. Well, reliable for the most part.
So Many Shenanigans
We couldn’t imagine pulling off what Audrey managed to do in We’re a Bad Idea, Right? With the help of Henry and her friends, she rents out her family guesthouse to make money for her glassblowing fellowship. Over the course of three weeks, Audrey hosts several guests while trying to keep everything a secret from her parents. She has a run-in with certain brownies, a hazardous child, and missing home decor. Then when desperate times call for desperate measures, Audrey takes her luxury property hosting to another scale. It’s risky, ill-advised, and super stressful, but ultimately so much fun to read.
K. L. Walther’s We’re a Bad Idea, Right? is a delightful, fake dating romance full of intimate chemistry, rental shenanigans, and feel-good vibes. We loved everything about it!
