Storm Caller picks up right after the end of book one, Storm Breaker. We reunite with Poet Graves and Rook Athira just as they’re getting arrested in the Wastes and taken into captivity. The pair must endure even more challenges in book two, ones that could keep them apart for good.

A Tender Romance
When dealing with a dystopian world as harsh and unforgiving as New Manhattan in Storm Caller, we like being able to read about the tender, romantic moments in between. Poet and Rook need to rebuild their trust after the end of book one. But once they start being fully honest, they quickly find their way back. It’s easy to see how well they know and care for each other. Although the angst is still present at times, we’re glad their relationship is as strong as ever.
Their Found Family (& Real)
Another thing we love about Storm Caller is Poet’s found family with Journey and Domino. They’re the best, most supportive friends she could ask for, even when she tells them about her secret ability. The same goes for Rook’s real family, though we’ll keep the details to ourselves for now. And as Poet and Rook work to uncover the Shield’s secrets and find a cure for Keepers, they become allies with a group who has the same objective. Together, these supporting characters make up such a meaningful found family that we absolutely adore.
Poet’s Path To Freedom
Finally, book one taught Poet how much the truth hurts. And as Poet would come to discover in Storm Caller, freedom comes at a great price. She has always been restrained by her position in Society, House Fiama, and Amery Academy. Poet’s powers were something to hide, not show off for everyone to see. But we see her gradually learn how to wield the Spark to her advantage. Ultimately, Poet must break free of everything holding her back in this book. The perilous cliffhanger ending sets up what’s bound to be an exciting trilogy conclusion.
With a tender romance amidst a harsh world, Nisha J. Tuli’s Storm Caller is a riveting sequel about truth, duty, and the price of freedom. We can’t wait to see where the trilogy goes from here!
