NOT A TOY has been on our minds lately. We’ve had ‘Nervous’ on repeat and we’re looking forward to their upcoming debut album PRBLMS. We know ‘say so’ dropped a while ago and, of course, that’s been part of our on-repeat songs ever since. But now, there’s a music video too! If you’re not streaming ‘say so,’ what have you been doing?

NOT A TOY shared the story behind the ‘say so’ music video, which is pretty unique.
The music video for “say so” had quite the adventure. We initially shot a ton of footage on the road while we were touring with De’Wayne, but our van got robbed in Chicago within an hour of us pulling up … they did steal a laptop and all of our hard drives which had all of the footage on them. So, when we got back home, we had to last minute shoot everything over again and find a way to make it work. Obviously, it wasn’t how we envisioned it to start, but we had fun winging it and putting together something entirely new. … “say so” is a song that’s near and dear to our hearts, so despite the ups and downs making it, we’re so happy with how it turned out. We hope you love it too.

We’re so glad that NOT A TOY took such an unfortunate situation and turned it into something amazing. We absolutely love the concept of them answering interview questions in the background of the video, showcasing the narrative behind ‘say so’ while the song and visuals play. The last line before the music plays, “If you want to know what ‘say so’ is really about, well, you’re probably asking the wrong questions, it’s not what, it’s who,” leading into the start of the song is such a great transition. We definitely watched the video a few times to see what was being typed out as the interview answers.
Their genre-bending approach to music makes it no surprise that they adapted so well to having to reshoot this music video last minute, and they knocked it out of the park. NOT A TOY gets better and better with every release, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next!
