Maya Lane’s New Single ‘Bump Into Me’ Is All We Needed

Sometimes we all feel like running from everything, but at the end of the day, the one person we can never run from is ourselves. If you asked us to describe the vibe of Maya Lane’s latest single, that would be it. ‘Bump Into Me’ is a song that reflects on the fact that while we can change everything around us, we’re still our own constant companion. We will always “bump into ourselves” eventually.

And the music video illustrates that feeling beautifully. It opens with Maya driving a van to the middle of a field, stopping and singing to the camera. Then, she packs her things into a suitcase and leaves on foot. She walks around, dances, runs, opens a map, and eventually meets other versions of herself. At the end, she’s right back where she started, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing, right?

We love how much the video aesthetically reflects the vibe of the song. It’s summer-y, it’s fun and it perfectly translates what Maya Lane is saying with the lyrics. And can we just say that the bits filmed to look like old movies shot on film were our absolute favorites.

“‘Bump Into Me’ was written in the first writing session I ever had with Rich Cooper and Jonny Latimer. I went in with the first line ‘me and my ego are falling out’ and the idea of wanting to run away from yourself. I am a huge over-thinker and can often get trapped in my thoughts. ‘Bump Into Me’ explores the crazy possibilities you dream about doing when you want to escape from life but also the realisation that no matter where you go, you will always take yourself with you.”

Maya has been doing so much since her first single in 2022, ‘Still The Same,’ that it’s hard to believe she’s only 20 years old. For example, she just ended 2023 touring as a guest with Far From Saints. And you think she’s done performing and wowing crowds for a while? No! She has four more dates lined up until March:

  • January 27 – Half-moon Putney (Supporting James Walsh, Starsailor)
  • February 6 – Paper Dress Vintage, Hackney (SESAC showcase)
  • February 28 – Half Moon Putney (supporting Matthew Nolan)
  • March 5 – Hootannany Brixton ( Simeon Hammond Dallas curates)

You can stream ‘Bump Into Me’ here, and if you enjoyed this song, we definitely recommend checking out Maya’s full catalog, her music is honestly one of the best new things we’ve come across recently. And you can trust us on this, we always have the best recs for you.
